I have been following the food information chart on the Green Iguana Society's website for everything I feed my iguana. It says that parsnip is a staple veggie and your list says it is no good. I don't use it every feeding, but should I stop using it altogether? Also, your list says that wheat bread is good for a staple. How do I prepare the wheat bread for my iguana and how often can I use it?

Also, I was thinking about adding alfalfa to my iguana's diet as well. I saw it in its dry bag form on sale on lllreptile.com and was wondering if this is the kind you can feed iguanas. Do they sell it fresh in places like supermarkets? Just looking for more variety than the usual greens.

Parsnips are fine to feed as a staple. What the list is giving you are options. A lot of foods have a drawback here and there but with a bit of thought you can balance everything out. Bread should be as an occasional treat. Just wet it. You can get alfalfa pellets at any feed store. Just make sure its 100% alfalfa and not hamster or guinea pig pellets that have additives. You can also get the powdered leaves at health food stores. I have never heard of the fresh leaves being sold. Alfalfa is very bitter tasting so you will probably have to hide it if you use it.

I even grind up the alfalfa pellets in a coffee grinder and sprinkle it over the top. Zair likes it just fine this way.
