Hey everyone. I noticed on the GIS site a thread that mentions iguanas being given as prizes at carnivals. Personnally, I've never seen this, but what kind of idiots are implementing this crap? What can be done about this? Is education and awareness of iguanas enough to stop this BS? I know the court system sees animals as personal property, so that's a dead end street. I am so sick and tired of seeing animals suffer because of human idiocy and the need to make a buck at any freakin' expense. If there's something I can do, please let me know what avenues I can take to stop this craziness. Where do I start? Or should I say, where do we start? If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears, and yes, I will act. Hopefully this pisses everyone off enough that you too will want to take an active part of stopping this insaness. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, which I'm not trying to, but this has me steaming big time.

I'd start with subscribing to the carnival iguanas list and then reading the docs over at MK's site for ideas groups.yahoo.com/group/CarnivalIguana/www.anapsid.org/pettrade/index.htmlalso you can look into first your local ordinance laws, then county/city then state....... also go to baskingspot.com, to the archives...there are some articles about give-away iguanas if you notice broken links, email me direct to desig.geo@yahoo.com and put "IZ:something" I have a filter that filters out IZ stuff to my mailbox. des

Des, I've subscribed to carnival iguanas and see nothing there that can effectively combat abuse. WE need to get directly involved and stop putting the responsibility on others to take care of our dirty work. As I said above, the law sees animals as property, so I believe a different avenue should be explored. WE need to get together and storm legislation in Washington Dc to rewrite some of these ridiculous laws. How about signatures? That should speak highly to 'those' in charge. I thought this would generate a lot more response than what I've saw. I was hoping to get more ideas and more involvement.

It is sickening and yes...it does piss me off.
I have been with our local humane society for a little over two years now and have seen some horrible things...one of the latest was a starvation case...I got momma and 4 puppies...several other dogs/puppies/cats were taken, but no one found the dead rottie with a logging chain holding it to the wall with no food/water until the next day...and he was already dead. Starved to death...it's only a class B misdimeanor. Yes...it pisses me off that the laws are less than ideal!
Carnival Iguanas does have good info in how to write bills to change the laws in using live animals as prizes. There are several people that can help directly on how you can write the bill...you just need ask. They will show you where to go for sample bills.
Researching your states current laws is time consuming. You need to add the appropriate class/section numbers to add them to the existing law books, find the representatives you need to back the bil and so on. Being an election year has it's advantages. Use this time!
