Hi everyone. I'm looking to purchase a digital camera and know absolutely nothing about them. It seems that price depends on megapixels. Now, her comes a question that really shows my ignorance: What is a megapixel and why does it seem so important. Does it have to do with the quality of picture, and are the lower megapixels really that different? I want so bad to post pictures so I need a little info before I 'Make the leap' . Then after I figure out what to buy and how to use one, you guys (and gals) will have to bear with me and teach me how to actually post pictures. Joe

Hi Joe-
Yes indeed, megapixel has to do with quality.
Pics are made up of dots per inch. The higher the dots per inch the greater the resolution, the greater the pic quality.
Shoot for the highest you can afford.
Good luck my friend!

And if you can afford it...get one with a swivel view finder that allows you independant viewing...even if the camera is over your head... I love mine for that! I was lucky and found mine a Wal-Mart for about $200...now it's only sold in Europe for about $800!!
