Elvis has entered his first "official" breeding season - last year he went through breeding season, but it was NOTHING like this.
For the last 5 days, he hardly eats. In fact on most days, he won't eat at all. I've been trying to hand feed him almost constantly, it's the only way I can get anything at all into his tummy, and at that it's not more than a few bites.
I'm also pretty certain he's not drinking on his own, so I've been trying to get him to drink from the mister. This morning I tugged very lightly on his dewlap, enough to open his mouth just a crack so the water could kind of slip in there, and after that he drank a little on his own from the mister - but other than that - nothing.
I have heard that males during breeding season eat less, but do they eat THIS much less? I mean, hardly at all? He has noticibly lost weight, and that bothers me.
Any suggestions or advice?
Thanks!

Male igs do this...and it's to drive us nuts, I'm quite sure about this... He may lose a considerable amount of weight during a hard season. If he is as healthy as I'm sure you have kept him, I would worry a ton about it right now. He will eat. He won't let himself starve. The hydration is the big thing and you're doing the right thing there. I keep Zair hydrated this way, too. If he has a favorite fruit you may try to squeeze the juice over his salad. Zair goes ga-ga for grapes...squeeze the grape juice over the salad and put a few of the grapes in there for visual appeal...and he scarfs.

I tend to agree Prism - that they do this JUST to drive us nuts! Thanks for the reassurance, I was getting really worried. Before he entered this season, he was soooooo nice an plump, now he's just losing more and more weight every day His tail is still really huge though, so I guess I won't worry TOO much until I start to see some weight loss in the tail - then he and I are going to have to have a little talk ---> yeah right ---> he'll talk, I'll listen LOL I'm going to give the fruit juice idea a try too! He absolutly LOVES melons of every kind! Thanks again! ~Nan
