This guy is really packing it away..He ate a big handful of greens and a chunk of cantaloupe.Didnt touch the piece of banana though..How often should I put calcium powder on his food? I figure he probably needs extra this week since I have no idea how he was fed before but chances are not real well. Tomorrow I will add some mixed veges to his greens, I guess I just forgot to today...

What kind of Calcium powder are you using, reptymom? When he's a baby, he should get it 2 or 3 times a week...after that its not necessary with a good, varied diet. The reason I ask about the type of Calcium powder is that many of them can often contain Phosphorus...which is great for a veggie eater like an ig, but his regular veggies provide PLENTY of that. You don't want to overload him with Phosphorus. Many powders also contain Vitamin D3. This is a Vitamin that can be toxic if given artificially. What kind of mixed vegetables are you feeding him? Peas are OK, but corn and carrots are not so good for him. Its cool if he doesn't like bananas, those aren't so wonderful for him either.

Also unless told to do so by a vet don't try to load him up on supplements. Too much is worse than not enough and can be toxic.

I use Rep-cal for my bluey it just the original powder with D3.I also use the rep-cal Herptivite but that is only once in a great while, like if the animal hasnt been eating much or is under stress...Ive had reptiles for the last 5years just not iguanas. So Im not intirely without some knowledge, trust me I read ALOT as much as I can about any reptiles..I know bananas arent great but It seems always be a favorite doesnt it..My Bluey LOVES banana, so he gets a few chunks now and again(of course he loves anything thats bad or fattening)... I havent fed him any veges yet, just mixed greens and a bit of fruit..I usually use greenbeans and squash as staple veges with grated carrot occasionally with my Bluey..In winter I sometimes have to resort to using frozen mixed veges too.. I did print off that list with the color coded vegetables and fruits, nice to have around...

On you question on what to feed in the winter months...Wal-Mart carries those bagged greens. Not the giant bags of collard greens, mustard greens and turnip greens. They're a pain in the...well...you know...because you have to play hide-and-seek with the larger stems and remove them. And when the mustard greens...or is the the turnip greens...really smell bad when they start to turn they ruin the entire salad if you make large batches like I do. The bags I mean are the smaller ones. There's one called the "Santa Barbara" blend which has endive, escarole and radiccio. Very good greens when there's nothing else. I also tend to add one of Robert Redford's bag of fresh herbs. These have a ton of stuff in them...some good...some so-so...some only occasional, but they mix up well in a larger salad. I use both of these on a regular basis added to the main salad...but it's also a quick fix when I don't feel like slaving over the sink that night...or the store has ugly greens... . On the calcium supplement...steer clear of the added D3. There's already enough D3 in the diet and adding more to it can become toxic. And another great staple veggie is parsnips shredded as you would carrots. This is an always diet item here.
