Here's my schedule, 7 am lights go on, Tiki has 2 mega-ray bulbs on his basking area, one at 12 in, one at 18 inches away. Then he has two iguana 5.0 48" flourescents on the other side. If the day is going to be warm, one of the mega rays is replaced with a compact flourescent, his cage is so big, it's hard to keep at the optimum temp if it's 0 degrees outside. At night, usually 8:30 - 9:00, I turn on his ceramic heat emitter AND his red night light. After he falls asleep, I turn the red one off, but he won't go to bed without it. I think at the pet store he got used to having lights on all night. Almost a year later, I haven't broke the habit!! But I never leave the red one on. They definitely need darkness. During breeding season, he went to bed at like 10 pm, now he's back to about 9:00..he's like a kid, and about as spoiled, but he's taught me alot, yours will too, if you pay close attention to him!
