Ok, I got the 2 36 inch reptisun 5.0 lamps, and a double lamp that i am assembling. Is it ok if it faces outwards, on the wall of the cage, or do I need it angled...also, do I need to put some kind of cage wire around it, to protect the bulbs??
I could mount the device on its side, as there are screw holes there too, this is an industrial type lamp...though I have also taken into consideration of placing lots of rubberized tape on the corners of the metal case. If i had it facing downwards he would have to lay underneath it.
not completely sure what works best. I would go with the mercury vapor lamp, but I have heard they can be dangerous.
Also, UVB meters, I heard they start around $160, can they be purchased in store, or do they have to be ordered?

Part of your answer is in the other post. If your referring to the danger of the mercury concern...here's from a very recent post on the "meter group": So there will be concerns no matter what type of fl. light you're using. If it's another concern...please say so. We can help you understand how to use these lights safely... . A cage around the lights are only necessary if you think your ig might damage them. The meter can be purchased online, but you can get in on pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/UVB_Meter_Owners/ who offers discount rates when a large order is submitted.
