Anyone ever get a definitive answer on what all the things on a blood panel mean and how they compare to other Igs???
Or do we all just trust our Vets implicitly?
;D

I don't trust 'em Dom! I have document I call a blood panel study" (for lack of a better title). I'll work on getting it ready to post here so ya'll can understand those big ole vet terms a little easier. I'm down with the flu right now and not doing much but I promise to get to it very soon!

If I remember right there are two distinctly different testing options vets can use for the blood panel values. So these values will only be comaparable to those using the same test.
The terms will still be the same, just the values will differ.

Hi Prism Wolf-
Good point! Can you educate us further on the two different testing methods? Any info you can provide would be helpful. We can add it to the study.
The spreadsheet is a comparative study of 4 different Iguanas blood panels with stated acceptable ranges. None seem too far off from the others.
I think the overall educational value of the spreadsheet will help others understand what the blood panel is measuring in laymans terms.
Once posted, please review it and let us hear your thoughts.
Thanks for the input.

Hi Tesa- I haven't heard from Prism Wolf on her information. I'm communicating with a Vet Tech who is going to confirm the methods for me. I'll let you know. OOOhhhhh. Thunderstorms? I LOVE them, looks like Spring is really here!

I will put the question to the AIML. The brainiacs will jump at it I hope.
Supposed to get thunder storms here tonight. Will unplug before going to bed...

Hi Veronica-
Glad you posted to AIML. When I saw the post I thought, this has to be Prism_wolf. No bites yet on the question. they are so standoffish at times.
Zootycoon, huh? I've been hooked on Roller Coaster Tycoon myself for about two weeks now. I created a great park, makes lots of money and now I'm bored. LOL Have to look into the Zoo Tycoon one now. Thanks for the tip. there's another few hundred hours of my life I'll never get back! ;D

Get the Zoo Tycoon with the extension pack. It has the original Zoo Tycoon, Dinosaur Digs and the Marine Mania. I found it at Sam's Club for $25.83...can probably find it online cheaper. Still no bites on the blood panels either. They do seem to ignore quite often. If I don't see anything tomorrow I'll repost the question. Usually a second request gets answered...usually...

Well, I didn't exactly get the answer I wanted, but it did lead to a very good article on abnormal lab values in igs. I still would like to know how many tests are actually used for determining these values, but the article is well worth reading. www.anapsid.org/labtests.html

Hi Veronica-
Thanks I read the article too. Very intersting stuff. And it helps a lot. I think we'll modify the comparison a bit to insure that whoever reads it understands all of this.
Thanks for your help here. I still think it will be a useful tool to help folks decifer the various results. We'll preview it to you when we have it ready.

you'll have to take in account the lab the panels were analyzed in -- each lab may have different standards. also some things to keep in mind, that a stressed iguana can elevate the WBC. also, is blood taken via tail or nail? some labs are not in house, so the blood has to be put in the centrifuge, and the then sent out. also, was enough blood taken. how soon was the blood processed, esp. since there's transport involved? how well was the blood stored?
rambling... des.

Yep....I know all that........but It's not anything THAT scientific. Merely an "observation" intended to help lay people understand the terminology and indications on the blood panels they have done.
