Please don't give up on them. When Rex went through his aggressive period I refused to let him get the better. Since Dom3 was the only one able to get him out of his cage I would have him lift him out. Then I would walk away from the cage with him in my arms and hug and kiss him. When I was done I would put him back in his cage. But don't let them see you sweat! Iguanas want to maintain the "alpha" position and will do so if they see it working. The more you leave them alone, the more they will be aggressive with you.

And I know not to let him get the upper hand, but it's become almost impossilbe not to now. *Not* running away at this point means a guaranteed bite. Just coming within two feet of him right now runs a high risk of a leaping attack, jaws wide and tail thrashing. No one can get close to Bailey without him trying to attack right now. The best I've been able to manage is to throw a towel over him, wrap him up good and tight, and then force him to let me hold him like that - pulling the towel back far enough to reveal his eyes every once in a while. Even then, he usually starts thrashing and huffing after a few minutes... His color has finally started to change, though; what was once bright orange is now a dim, dirty yellow - I'm hoping this means he's coming to the end of his season at long last. But his aggression and bad attitude haven't softened one bit yet. --Roc

The trauma of the noses is finally coming to an end. A few days ago, the last of the scab from Bailey's mystery wound fell off. Mary's scab is still holding on, but I imagine it, too, will fall off in a matter of days. Where it is pink now is where the wound was. I am assuming these are fresh, new scales developing as it certainly doesn't look like scar tissue to me. --Roc
