Hi guys , thanks for the tips converning magnus's wound on his brain bump , the wound has closed and his healing nicely.
Now for my next ig "majior" Hes just coming out of a long shed and his tail is more pink then orange , looks as if it hasnt skinned properly.
What are the common problems with igs tails , and how can they be resolved.
Thanks

I've never heard of a "pink" tail unless it's from a healing injury.
The biggest problems with ig tails is retained shed. This is where some of the shedding gets stuck on can eventually cut off circulation if not removed.
Another is getting caught in cage doors, under foot, being grabbed and either breaking it off immediately or causing bad enough damage it needs to be removed surgically.

Its probably retained shed then , hes gone through a bad shed this time for some reason , it looks pink probably because the build up of skin over his orange tail.
How can i sort this out ?
Thanks

Soaking in warm baths usually does the trick. But for those really stubborn sheds...you can rub a little mineral oil on it and let it soak for 20 mins. You may have to help it a bit...just be sure it really IS ready to come off.

Hi thanks , do you think thats all it could be ?
I have heard about this inclusion bacteria that spreads through the body starting at the tail and toes.
I really hope its not that , im quite worried now.
Have you got any pics of a shed where the tail is still coming off on an orange iguana , i cant find any.
So just put him in the bath and rub his tail for him, ill do that tonight for a bit and see how he goes.
Thanks

I don't have any pictures of orange tail shed. If it's of such concern that you may think it could be bacterial...there is no one on this forum that can help you. This needs a vet!
It would help if you had a digi-cam...you can purchase them for $50 nowadays. These are not great quality cameras, but they are fairly decent and are perfect if all you use them for is the Internet.
One of my duaghters has one and it's a pretty fair picture taker.

Yup, try a good, long soak in warm water. Shedding problems are often caused by insufficient humidity. In the dry climate here in Colorado, I always have to put my babies in the tub for a while and manually pull the shed off their spines to keep their spines healthy. Other than that, we really can't be of much help without seeing pictures. That reminds me, I really need to buy a DigiCam myself so I don't have to borrow one every time I need it.

Even those brown scabs ?
I am feeling so sickened about this that i am almost in tears. I hate to niglect my pets.
Do all thier tails go like this during shed then ? He still has a couple of bits on top of his head and near his vent.
I was begginig to think it was bacteria infection and he would have to have his tail amputated.

The tail looks normal to me too. What scabs are you talking about? Do you mean the lighter-colored scales in his dark patterns? Those are normal also, as they age, their color patterns are constantly changing. Maybe you're still able to see something we can't in the photos, but his tail looks just fine to me too.

Ive circles the parts that i think are bad, these bits are as if they are raised away from the skin slightly. As if it will come off with the skin, i dont know if im over reacting, but it just dont feel good.

The pictures are not clear enough to ee whar you are trying to show. They are also VERY large pictures making it hard to navigate it. Must scroll across the screen.
Can you just get the spots in question and resize it a touch?

Cant really get any better pics , the bits im identifying are brown in colour not black. They are slightly raised from the body and are worst rigt at the tip of the tail.
Could this just be retained skin ? i sprayed a lot of water on him last night and tried rubbing it a bit , but nothings moving yet.
I have heard that the rasied skin can be skin infection or mites getting under the scales.
Any further advice is appreciated.
Thanks
Dan
