Hi everybody,
I noticed last night, while I was giving Audrey a bath, that she darkened a bit like she always does. But, the strange thing is that her left arm, the one that is still healing from the nasty bite Hercules gave her, never changes color, it just stays a bright green. I know that this must be because whatever mechanism transports the color change throughout the ig's body must be damaged. Does anybody know what part of their anatomy is responsible for transporting the color change through their skin? I'm hoping that this will eventually improve in the same way that her paralysis in that arm is gradually diminishing.

Here is how I am understanding it using the green anole as an example. So apparently it has to do with oxygen level intake. www.anapsid.org/sight3.html for the whole page. Pretty interesting stuff. There may be some good info in chameleon biology stuff since they are the masters of color change... ;D This would make sense though for your greenie not changing color in that arm since the maximum amount of oxygen cannot travel as it needs to through the healing and subsequent scar tissue.

Cool Thanks for the info Veronica. I figured it probably had something to do with the circulatory/vascular system, but I wasn't sure. I think that pretty much hits the nail on the head. I know how bad ig bites can be for all kinds of systems...heh...it took at least 18 months for me to regain full use of my right index finger after Mercury degloved it for me (the tip was always colder/more pale than the rest of my finger too...LOL)

Degloved!!! *shudders*
I remember you saying something about the degloving before in another post...and I've heard stories from others...and I can only keep my fingers crossed I don't ever experience that!

Yup, degloved. Having that happen though didn't hurt nearly as bad as...when I had it put back together OUCH!!! Well, actually there was a whole list of four-letter words, and "ouch" wasn't one of them, but I don't want to post those others here. Oh well...I learned my lesson...never mess with a gravid female when she's angry. ;D
