I am new to this gravid female thing. I am thinking my large girl is gravid she has been acting weird for a while. I have a cat litter box in her cage now. I was wondering if I could use Yesterdays news (paper pellets) for the box. It is made of compressed paper. She has been digging around her cage for a few days now. The closest reptile vet is in VT. About 2 hrs from here. I am going to call him tommorrow, but I want to give her something now she can use. If that isn't good, Please tell me what I can use so I can get it ASAP I am going to take xrays of her tomorrow morning to see if she has any development. Living at a Vet Hospital does help. Unfortunately, the doctors here don't know much about reptiles. They are willing to help me in anyway possible We just need to find out what to do

Here is a link to how to prepare a egging box. www.anapsid.org/iguana/egging.html#eggboxMy iguanas haven't been gravid since 98. They have been spayed so I can't give much advice but if you read that article and check out the other articles on Melissa Kaplan's site you will find almost anything you need to know about iguanas. It would be safer to use alfafa pellets for her to dig in, but, then again, many people use potting soil and sand without hurting their ig. When was the last time she ate?

She is still eating just very little. She is pooping very little also. Her stomach has not changed but she is using her back feet to dig.

I have tried peat moss and sand and a mixture of the two. Little stinker still would not use it and layed her eggs up on her basking shelf! Zok will stop eating completely for a few weeks before she lays. It will make you CRAZY!

I took an xray of Evan today and OH YES there are some eggs in her. Some is an understatement. I have her nesting box in place. She has gone in a few times. I am just hoping this will all be over soon. Will keep you posted.

Make sure she is plenty hydrated. It won't be long for the eggs to be laid, so feeding her nothing but watery foods/treats will be fine for a couple of weeks. You can also add the calcium supplement to them. Inject grapes with it, or powder over watermelon, etc. The more hydrated she is the easier time she'll have laiying... ;D

Good point V. Since they get most of their water from the food if they aren't eating they are easily dehydrated! During the last few weeks prior to laying Zok won't eat anything! Even bread! This is the only time she is willing to drink from a spraybottle!

Yup...hyrdration is important. Mercury used to stick her face in her water bowl and drain it at least twice a day when she was gravid. Also, don't forget to give her plenty of opportunity for exercise, this will also help with a smooth egg-laying.
