hello everyone my name is jenniferlynn and i have become an owner of a Beautiful Female Ig! Im just so worried for her. I have taken her from my brother in law who thought it would b cool to have an IG but when she got bigger he didnt think so hhmm wonder why maybe because he said he was told to break her tail and toes to get her to behave the brains of some people and when i yelled at him he said she is only an animal i said no thats where u r wrong u r the animal!!! So anyways she had it rough she was very big couldnt move in a ten gallon tank not to mention her cage had nothing on the bottom and she was in her own urine. She bit and wipped she has gotten me a couple of times sometimes my husband looks at me and says i cant believe that u go in there still with No gloves but i cant i need her to know i want her that i care for her and also im scared but for her to think im not. Not to mention she shakes from her hip area to her legs so im thinking she has that disease maybe. I cant find a vet its a joke i live in wisconsin small parts of it too I have been to store after store looking for things and cant find NOTHING but i do have sweet potatoes and Squash. I have been feeding her iguana food adult and lettuce when i noticed she isnt eating that. I gave it to her and it doesnt look promising (the squash and sweet potatoes) she just looked at it like what the hell is this but yesterday for the first time she had one piece of apple and she ate it as soon as it hit in front of her!! After she tried to get me with her mouth I dont give up easy but my god she will b bigger soon i have seen some pics and when she gets that big i hate to say it but she will win on me Im an owner of ferretts, hedehogs, fish dogs mostly ones i have saved from people friends that cant take care of them She will b a challenge but one that im willing to take because i find her beautiful and so unique. Im fanastied!! I just know that sometimes we have to give things up we love and it will kill me that is why im looking for soooo much help!! Im getting plywood and the lamps for heating. When i got her another friend of mine had a boa and she got rid of it because she was having twins i bought the whole set up and it was 500,.00 so she had a rock which i have unplugged because of the burns i have checked her but there is nothing but i have noticed she diggs under the rock since it isnt plugged in i wonder what is with that? She also has a heating light that the lady had for her boa and no i didnt get the boa too scared LOL. i dont know if its good enough i know the bulb to replace it is 65.00 so i dont know! If someone could help me with anything they have please email me or add me to ur msn messagner which mine is sweetjenniferlynn@hotmail.com or yahoo sweetjlynn02@yahoo.com Thank yopu soo much everyone sweetjlynn

Jen, I am seriously worried that this iguana has MBD. From what you've told us about her diet, lighting, and shaking legs.....it seems almost inescapable. She really should see a vet, but if that isn't possible, I'll try to help you with her diet etc. the best I can. MBD is caused by a lack of calcium. Iguanas need a diet that is rich in calcium. They also need vitamin D3 in order to absorb the calcium they take in. In order for their bodies to produce Vitamin D3, they must have special UVB rays (fake sunlight). Blelow is a link to a great food chart. You can print it off or write things down, and take it to the grocery store with you. I would suggest getting as many collard greens into her as you can. They are about the BEST source of calcium you can get. Mustard greens, parsley, spinach, turnips greens, watercress, and bok choy are also good for calcium, but collards are about 7 times higher in calcium content than any of these!!www.greenigsociety.org/foodchart.htmIf you can't get her to eat within a couple of days, let me know and we'll try another route.

Hi Jennifer Lynn-
Welcome to the Zone.
Well, sounds like you are starting the adventure of a lifetime. Igs are indeed beautiful and unique creatures. They're also moody and rather trying at times. I like your attitude in 'not giving up', it makes for a great Ig owner.
I'd like to start with a BIG Thank You! for rescuing this poor Ig from the improper care of your brother. If I thought of all the horrible, mis-leading myths concerning Ig care, rolled them all up into one owner....well, you get my drift. this poor Igs life improved 100-fold the day you took her away from that.
As damage and health-issues from improper care take time to set in, recovery also take time. The good news: MBD can be almost entirely reversed if you are diligent about the rehab. But, we must start immediately. Tesa is exactly right in her advise, you need to increase calcium immediately and permanently. One quick way is to take the Ig to a vet and get her a calcium shot. Barring that option, feed high calcium meals and keep UVB input steady.
I see folks have given you vet connection sources. That's great. Although you may think Wisconsin is not the best place to locate things, we have a lot of resources we can offer to help you in this regard.
I'm anxious to hear about Iggy's progress. Please post when you can.

TEXTTEXT Its just me for an update! I have baby on Greens and she is what seems to appear to b better in a couple different ways!! I can get her now and she doesnt look like she wants to eat me (LOL) and she kinda huntches her back but she doesnt fight with me or whip me like she use to thank god because it hurt like hell but i never stopped giving up! Thanks to Tesa she is an AWESOME person and has turned out to b a WONDERFUL friend! She has mailed me some calcuim and the Book Iguana for Dummies! Which is defiently me!! But anyways i have got her that UBV light plus a Red light for heat her cage stays at 80 but for some reason over the night last night it was at 95 when i got up this moring but she was on the other side in the cooler part! I was afraid that i would fry her because when i got her the lights she ALWAYS was staying under the lights and not moving. She eats now i had to feed well force her to eat when we started the right diet for her! But now she is eating on her own. She is getting a bath tonight so she can have a bowel movement. So pray that will happen because i have only noticed her poop once since i had her and its been alittle over a year! My husband had built her an awesome ramp maybe nothing to what some of u have but its everything to baby and I. And she goes up it i have noticed she does move around alot more. Today i have been home 3 hours and she is laying under the ramp not on top where the lights are strange but i havent seen tesa on to ask her what im doing wrong. I know alot of u think im stupid and i admit it but if u could understand the love i have for her and the stuff she was threw and the way she looked when i got her and even though i was doing everything wrong i never gave up and she was better natured(remind u she has bite me twice and my god OUCH not to mention the tail whippings i hope some of u can relate because i was looked at like im crazy being told i was too that they dont do that or bite) and looking even though everything i was at the time doing was still wrong in my heart i thought was right! I have spent over 200.00 in one day buying her everything she needs i have been surfing the net to look for cages hubby is going to make one so if u know of any good sites let me know Because i know she will pull out of it i just know she will!! Im trying i really am she might just b a reptile but she is.....one of my children. I have alot of animals and i also have a sick ferrett and they are taken a toll on me but im just work more to pay the bills and think positive! I know baby will pull out of it im praying and i know that if she doesnt i have found a vet thank you to the person who gave me the site. I havent brought her because they say it will b about 300.00 for her vet bill and want 100.00 down and i dont have it right now. And they arent open to payments because people have made it bad im guessing! But im going to give her a month and then see and if not i will bring her or if something becomes more obvious! But as fas as im concerened im doing everything right now possiable! And i thank everyone..... and anyone.... im open for any suggestion! So once again Thnak You Sweetjlynn

Hi Jen-
So glad to hear that Babie is being cared for properly now.
Tesa has invested a lot into educating you and you couldn't be in better hands.
I beleive, in my heart, that she'll continue to improve and be healthy again. There's a lot to be said for love and Iguanas.
Good luck and keep us posted on her progress.
Oh, BTW, go to the pics forum and see the instruction page there. If you have any further questions, or difficulties, let me know.
