TEXT I now have a new home with a mommy who has done alot of reserch on iguana care and decided she would like to get an iguana. Although she has taken in a number of unwanted/secondhand "KIDS" I am her first iguana and her frist impulse buy. ;D The problem is my last family found it nessarry to declaw my frount end. Now all the info she has about setting up a good home is questionable. So the real question is am I now a gound dweller or is there a way for me to climb. And how does my mom fix my cage safely! Thanks for any hepl, Puff

HI Puff, welcome to IZ. When you get a chance, introduce your Mom to us. ;D "Climby things" in an iguana's cage can be made from many things!! No need for you to be a ground dweller! I use the coated wire shelving like you see in the pic below. (barely lol) My girl is missing several of her claws and gets around just fine. Tell your mom we're glad to have her here and we'd like to know more about the both of you.

Hi and welcome to the Iguana Zone. The wire shelving Tesa showed you is a good option as well as building a system of ramps leading up at an incline that isnt too steep. Sort of like a stairway that goes up, then switches back and goes the other way. Puff is not going to have to be denied access to the height that is loved!
And I am feeling the need to leave my fingerprints on someone's throat!

Only fingerprints, the marks I would leave would be a lot deeper but in the same general shape.
Clawless climbing toys eh? Ramps are a good idea, make them about 12 inches wide and put small strips of wood across them every few inches. Or if your ig is large enough you could make stairs like in my cage. I used a 6 inch rise and a 12 inch run and they are easily scaled by Bob. I have a pic up in the housing section under the "Its Done" thread.
How was he de-clawed, by a vet? Many igs loose claws and some grow back. There are a few threads on this in the injury section.

We can only hope it was done by a vet! It wouldn't be the first case I heard of where some one just clipped the ends of the toes off!

thanks so much for the help my mom is so glad i will be able to climb. We are getting along good, things are going slow just the way I like. I am a 3 and 1/2 foot 5yr old female green Iguana. My mom is 47 yrs old, she is a RN and works for a home health agency in San Antonio tx. In our house right now is 3 cats, 3 dogs, 4 birds, and one ferret. Outside is 2 dogs and 3 horses. She also has fish at work. She tells me I will get to go to work with once in awhile when I'm ready. Don't remember how I "lost" my claws but they are gone from the knucle out. My feet are well healed so the "procedure" happened a while back. Mom was also told my tail was docked for my previous owners protection. But mom thinks that someone grabed me by my tail a while back and it's grown back as much as it is going to. By the way my moms name is Cathy and we both thank-you once again. You'll be hearing from us real soon. Puff & Mom (Cathy)

Ya know Cathy, considering all the front claws are gone, I wouldn't put it past whoever did THAT to crop poor Puff's tail as well. I simply cannot understand people. I'm so glad Puff has someone now who will take care of her properly and love her !

True Tesa! Some people should be limitied to only owning RUBBER lizards.
And then only under strict supervision!!

Puff, did you belong to my neighbor's bunny? The bunny owned a rubber lizard, and promptly docked it's tail and de-legged it.
Merlin... BUNNIES should NEVER be allowed to own lizards... not even rubber ones! ;D
Anyhow, welcome to the Zone, Puff and Cathy!
