So. I just signed up because someone on Deviantart told me it was a forum for iggy owners. I'm a new iggy owner, my boyfriend had an iguana years ago and knows more than me, but I read enough to know the facts other than the real life learning. I've had Eki for about a month now. He's a young iguana not sure how old yet. Haven't taken him to the vet yet. But here's a link to what the guy looks like. I'm a photographer for fun, so my images of him are fun and artistic!
On aug 7th my boyfriend and I went searching for an iguana for our 2 year anniversary. We wanted a pet that was ours and wouldn't interfer with his computer equipment which was littered by his cat's fur! Which is a big no-no. so I had been suggesting for months we should buy an iguana. I did nothing but research nonstop for two weeks, everyday as much as I could before aug 7th. We went to a local shop and they had an adult that appeared 2-4 years old, another adult that was only about 1-2 years old and then some VERY tiny baby iggies. They were priced between $15-55. I wasn't happy with any of them. Plus they wouldn't let us hold the 1 year old because he was fiesty. So I said fine, we'll go else where and buy from someone else.
So later that day the day was ending and I was so upset we werent' going to get an iggy on our anniversary. so I suggested stopping at a local petco. And OMG! They had FOUR of them! Beautiful, shedding, healthy, eating and active young iggies. They weren't sure of the ages but they were about 1-2 months old WE THINK... We brought him home in a box and I felt bad having nto had his habit set up yet. But with both of us working and cleaning we had it set up in 20 minutes. my neighbor had given us a lot of supplies and we bought some from the store too. As soon as he went into his new home which only had, food bowl, water bowl, and log he wasn't too upset surprisingly.
He took to his enviroment within a day. We went and bought him a zoomed hammock which I was IN LOVE with when I saw it te next day! Ever since that thing has been installed he's in love wiht it! He has a basking lamp atm and we still need to go out and buy the repti-sun 5.0 uv light for him. We also have decided we need to buy another lamp to put in the ceramic bulb for his sleeping times. He hates the light when sleeping and will actually sleep in his water dish, or ontop of between his log and the glass or food bowl and glass. He likes to wedge himself into places.
He gets held daily for a minimum of 30minutes and I love taking him outside to bask while I hold him. It's been so warm out lately that I can actually let him enjoy the sun without worry of the cold air. His name is Eki, and I keep calling him a he untill I'm told he's a she! =)

So far he's grown a lot, shed a lot and has gotten very use to his lifestyle. He has a half log to lay on or hide under, a hamock which he's addicted to. His mini swimming pool as I call it. A rock bowl large enough that he sits in sometimes. And hsi basking lamp. My bf and I plan to build a larger enviroment eventually. But his tank is big enough for his size atm.
Well I'm a new member and this is my simple post. =)
