Hello, I am new to this forum and have been lurking on here reading for a day or so. My friend bought an iguana (bad idea) and I have it for spring break (she is in Romania) and for summer and next year (she will be in a sorority and they do not even allow fish). She keeps it illegally in her dorm room for now. So she has him in a 10 gallon tank and she had a heat rock, no UVB light and no heat lamp just a fish tank hood. Now that I have him Thursday is slightly happier. I put a wire top on his cage, put in a large rock like water bowl for him to swim in and such, added a tall plant, and my heat lamp. I will be getting him a UVB light (I have a light bulb but not a holder). I used to have a red eyed tree frog which is why I have all the stuff. So while I am well aware that a 10 gallon is no place for an iguana, there is not much I can do for now. In a month and a half I will have him and I am building him a cage which will be easy since my grandpa has a huge shop with everything you could want (he builds fenders and engines for antique cars and tractors and has all kind of wood and such for packaging). I grew up making all kind of stuff from wood with the saws and nails and screws and welding metal for various stuff so I am confident it should be no problem. I originally came to the site just to look for ideas for building but I decided to stay ;D
So thats the story now about me and my ig. My name is Manda I am a freshman in college at Purdue University. The igs name is Thursday and he was bought in mid January. I will have an apartment next year so I will be taking him as I said earlier and he will have a huge cage as well as freedom to roam. He is already very tame because we have handled him daily since we got him, even hand feeding him often. He gets to swim in a bathtub (which my friends RA doesn't know since she is not aware of his existence but is out drinking as is everyone else so its ok) twice a week. I have let him in the bathtub here at home every day so far. He is fed romaine leaf lettuce, tomatoes, strawberries, green beans and peas, and sometimes a little banana. All his food is sprayed with a calcium spray as well. He is a sweet boy and loves to have his dewlap stroked and his head stroked. He lets me get his dead skin off as well (gently and carefully so I do not injure the new skin below) and has never bitten or whipped me with his tail. Anyhow yeah so thats me and Thursday.
