Alright... This is a confusing one for me. We've had Eki since he fit in the plam of my hand since 2004. This august will mark 4 years of having him. This is the first time we've noticed possibly something wrong or we just don't know about it cause it's new. Eki's left inner thigh is a bit swollen and his femoral plugs are very large. I lightly pressed the area about the plug to see if he would have any pain and he did move and feel discomfort so I think. I'm not sure what happened, if it's suppose to be swollen, or what. I'm very confused and concerned. I took some photos for you all to see. He's eating fine, pooping fine and acting normal except my boyfriend says he's been extra mean to him lately. Eki even fought a bit with me while I was holding him. We had to replace the screen on his enviroment cause he tore it from the staples. But new screen, fresh cut nails no more climbing for him. But Eki seemed a bit more fiesty than normal even with me which is unusual. Also we aren't sure if this is a breeding season thing or not. Not sure if he's even gone through one yet. This is all new for us. He's growing up so fast.. I feel like a lost parent. o.O

Gwen, it looks like Eki might have an absess. That definitely doesn't look normal.

I agree. Looks like a couple of the pores may have gotten infected. Its vet time.

Oh dear lord. Eki's never been to a vet. I guess now is as good as ever. Now I need some vet suggestions. My boyfriend lives in Oak Park, IL it's just west of chicago.

Eki has an appointment on the 18th. This Friday Morning at 9am. I'm taking him on a 30min car trip. Any suggestions would be great for taking him to the vet. He's never been so I'm very scared on how to transport him. Previous times we wrapped him with soft towels and let him joyride in a huge box with holes for our moves. Now he's a bigger guy. What should I do? It's been sorta chilly lately in chicago but sometimes warm too.

The box is fine. I used an "under-bed" tote. If he's nervous around other people just make sure the box is not see-through.

George sits on our dash board with a towel under him. Him really likes looking out the window, however, if you dont have anyone going with you to catch him if he decides to leave it might not be a good idea!

Eesh, that looks a bit painful. Let us know what the verdict is at the vet. I hope Eki will heal soon.

Well after being at the vet from 9am till 11:15am Eki got a full looking over..
Firstly this was Eki's first vet visit. He's Definately "MALE" and weights in at 3lbs 10oz. We didn't feed him from yesterday morning so the vet visit would go without him making a mess. So he was a bit thin from not eating for a day.
Eki apparently is spot on for his age and very healthy besides his femoral plug infection. I have an image of the infected area after the vet removed the waxy plug and the infected puss behind it. He wasn't too happy having a cream shoved into the now empty plug to fill the void to help it heal. He's prescribed a antibiotic oral medicine and a topical cream/gel to fill/apply to the infected area.
Eki was amazingly good in the car ride, and then also in the vet office. The vet we used is absolutely amazing and was very very well educated on iguanas. He was very pleased with Eki's health and our care of him. Also he gave us some new information we had never been told before. So we've found a vet that we now LOVE! and will probably take our cat to as well.
After 2hrs at the Vet, a cleaned out plug and a very now awake and hungry lizard it ended up costing us $299.00.... His first vet visit and well it was a pricey one.
I'll upload vet visit photos when I get home later. I'm currently at my boyfriends with Eki watching and keeping him calm. The photos are all safe for viewing except one graphic image of his exposed femoral plug that was removed and left open and bloody.

Well blood work came back and he's a very healthy boy. He's been taking the grape flavored anti-biotics very well for the past two days with little work to get it down his throat. The ointment on his leg is a big trickier but not too hard to handle.
He's been acting normal except when he apparently went on a hour rampage about the basement with the oven mit that I often use to hold him.... We aren't sure if he was trying to mate it or what. but apparently he was running about with it and wouldn't give it up for some time till my bf grabbed ahold of it and dangled eki from the oven mit till he let go.. I wasn't home to witness this madness.
