so our iguana Squintz is about 2 years old. a couple of weeks ago, i noticed that the tip of his nose was a little pink and swollen, but didnt think much of it. then a few days ago i noticed he had a big bloody sort of cut or scratch, when we woke up int he morning. i cleaned it out and this white, kind of hard substance came out, like a plug, and he had a little gaping hole in his nose on the right side. ive continued to clean and it scabbed over, but his nose is still swollen and another of these things has opened on his LEFT side. im so worried. we keep his cage very clean, and we've never had to take him or our other pets to the vet, so i dont know what to do. please please please help!!!

It sounds like Squintz might be doing some nose rubbing . Can you post a pic of the injury? How big is you enclosure? And is Squintz in breeding season? It does sound infected.

dont have a picture right now. his disposition is really cheery, he doesnt seem hurt or anything. our plan of action is to get him to a vet, get him a bigger cage, and one of our friends really needs a pet, so we're probably going to give him to our friend.
to give you an idea, the "plug" i was talking about, the whitish hard discharge, is a little bit smaller than the size of a corn kernel, and shaped a little like that.

Hey toasty - welcome to the forum. It sounds like your ig has an abscess. The pus from iguanas is very different than ours. It's more solid having the consistency closer to cottage cheese than anything. He may need some antibiotics for this. It's fairly common and often can be triggered by nose rubbing. It is a secondary infection so treatment is a good idea. To help find a vet in your area try one of these websites: www.herpvetconnection.comwww.arav.org <---click on "Members" www.anapsid.org/vets

They can hide illness well. My male Angus had 3 abscesses on his dewlap last year and he acted completely normal. The sooner you get it treated the better. Being in a cage that is too small can cause them to nose rub as well as restlessness during breeding season. As well as vet care you need to determine the cause of him rubbing his nose, or there can be repeated injuries.
