Just keep at it. Don't let up. Handle him even when he obviously doesn't want you to. Something you can do is sometimes don't hold him, but maybe get him to where you can pet him in the tank. Or set a treat down where he can see your hand placing it in front of him. This turns into a reward system, but he has to realize that's what it is first...a reward. The key is 20 mins daily and it will happen...:-)
Something several people I have known over the years have also just taken their ig while watching tv after lights out and simply sit. This has seemed to have developed into a very intimate relationship with their igs. Kind of a quiet time and a sense of security. You might try that, too.

Give him one more week to get accustomed to the routine and the surroundings. Once the second week is up...by all means begin the socialization process!! We're very glad you found you're way here, too... We have all been where you are at one time. It sure helps to have the experience of others to pull from and we sure enjoy handing it over...

baby ringo saw the vet today. said ringo is a she. he couldn't find anymore external mites on her and he gave her a shot for internal pests and she has to get another one in two weeks. said other than that she is looking healthy. she has a good color to her now and some of her scabby spots are starting to heal and peel already. yay. i'm so glad she is doing better.

You said that your iggy is only about a foot long from snout to tail. How could the vet determine the sex as a female at such a young age? Most iguanas can't be sexed until the are about a year and a half. Just wondering. My iguana is about 9 months old and I'm still in the dark as to his/her sex.

I'm wondering the same thing. Even when you know exactly what you're looking for an ig that young is just impossible to visually sex. It's good your baby is looking healthy though. Since it's getting hit with that cootie killer, though - you'll want to add a probiotic because the stuff attacks the microflora needed to digest food, too. I use it as part of a monthly maintenance program for the lizards here. 1. Nutribac - specifically for herps (many pet stores, online) 2. Benebac - Made for birds - approved for reptiles (pet stores, online) 3. Nature Zone Essential Probiotics - specifically for reptiles (online - www.bigappleherp.com ) 4. Acidophilus Tablets - Human health food store

well he said it he/she is between three months and five months. he said his early guess on sex is female. he pointed at something on ringo's underside between the back legs. said that most of the time there are some kind of raised bumps of some sort on males and he couldn't see any on ringo. i was kinda lost when he was saying most of that and couldn't really see what he was pointing at so i just shook my head yes and went on with the more important stuff like making sure ringo has no more bugs. ha. but he said nothing definate but his early guess is that its female? i dunno. i call my iggy ringo so i'm not worried about sex. haha and i gave ringo the nutibac a few days ago as you suggested. thanks again.

I think that the operative word there is GUESS! He IS just guessing.
And be sure to keep up with the mite control. Even though you think that they are gone, there could still be eggs that hatch out or a stray that you have missed. It only takes one and you are back up to your ears in mites!
