Hi all,
I have an iguana around four or five years old who has for the past few weeks been extremely viscous towards me. He has always been a bit on the aggressive side (when I "adopted" him I was told he was taken from a poor care taker, he may have been abused a bit), but the past few weeks he has been extra mean (I have seen his male genitalia, so I do know he is male). Since about August of 2009 he began to change a bit more orange, and had a weird month, bathroom behavior was not normal just going everywhere. I figured he may have been in mating season then, but as of late March 2010 he became EXTREMELY aggressive towards me. Trying to attack me, and successful twice the 2nd being quite a bite which probably required stitches (this was about three weeks ago, its scarring now). He is still trying to attack me, bobs his head as soon as I go into the room, tries to attack when giving him food, will chase me if out of his cage. Its been tough and I want him at least back to normal where I didn't feel threatened. I have been keeping him isolated as best as possible as he gets more annoyed when I am around, he is a little nicer to my girlfriend he doesn't lunge at her from inside the cage as he will do with me.
From what I have read this behavior isn't too abnormal some males in "heat" get this way, but is there anyway to help him get through this faster? If this keeps up for too much longer I may have to get rid of him as he really is a danger to me when like this. Anyway to calm him down? I have given him stuffed animals which look like iguana's, but he ignores them, he just devotes all his frustration towards me!
Any help is appreciated, some pictures right after the bite are attached just so you can understand why I am concerned.
Thanks!!
