Hey everybody,
My name is Samantha (sam). My boyfriend and I have two Green Igs... they're names are Acid (aka Cid) and Dopey. We got them from Petco ( ) in April of 2009 and they are the loves of our life!!! Previously I had only owned furry animals and never thought that I would enjoy the presence of a reptile in my bedroom...but I can't believe how much I have fallen in love with them! My boyfriend had an iguana a few years back but had to give him away because he was going to college.
At first we bought a pair of hatchlings (Cid and Olive) and unfortunately Olive died a week later. When we got her home from the pet store we noticed that she was a darker green color and was a little 'deflated' looking. Damn Petco sold us this poor girl, fully knowing that she was sick. We did all that we could to nurse her back to health (not wanting to bring her back to the place that did this to her), but she just wasnt strong enough. So the next day we went back to Petco and got Dopey, who is the exact opposite of Olive. As the store people were trying to get her into the little box so we could bring her home she escaped and ran wild on the shelves of the reptile isle!
Anyways it has been about a year and a half since we have had them and I couldn't be happier with them. We are in the process of building them a new home...in addition to their outdoor playground that we are building. We are converting our aviary in the back yard into Iggy playland! We currently have a 4ft UVB bulb and two basking spots in their enclosure now. We are still working on teaching them to go to the bathroom in their water bowls... which they are picking up quite nicely. Once we get that down they will be free roaming except when not supervised. We feed them lots of greens and fruit. I buy something different every time I go to the store to give them some variety...this week is mustard and collard greens with grapes and watermelon. Very occasionally I will give them a little treat of human food i guess you would call it... they had their first bit of Slurpee a few weeks ago, but they had a hard time getting it in their mouths! And within the past three weeks I have noticed that Dopey is a boy... he has been exposing himself when he goes to the bathroom. Cid we still aren't positive of his gender but we refer to him as a male...I personally think that he is a she
Anyways, I'm really excited to be here... I have been trying to find a decent forum for a bit and finally came across this one. Its nice to be able to talk to people about my babies and actually have someone understand what I'm saying. Well here is a pic of Cid and Dopey. Dopey is the one in the back facing left (with brown and some blue markings) and Cid is in front (he is mostly all green)To give you an idea of how long they are (I haven't actually measured them recently) Cid is just under 4ft long and Dopey is around 3.5 ft.
Thanks everybody!!
