Hello,
After deciding I wanted to adopt an Iguana, I did some research first and looked into what kind of environment they would need to live, how to care for them etc and decided that before I would get an Ig, I wanted to build a habitat for her.
Now that being said, I have for some reason, decided to go all out and create this massive semi-bio dome-esque habitat. Some basics of the habitat is it will be one giant tank but with three different tanks, a central basking section which will contain a little shelter for her so she can hide in, a pool where she will swim, and a final section which will contain live plants and vegetation.
Now is where the questions come in:
In the pool section this is where I fully expected her to defecate as well as bathe and swim. Now in order to keep it sanitary I was thinking of adding a couple of fish in it and a little seaweed on the bottom so that the fish are entirely self-maintained.
My question is, what sort of fish would be Ig friendly in the habitat and help maintain some cleanliness of the pool? Or is this just a bad idea and maybe I should just stick with a water filtration system?
My other question involves the live plant section. Obviously I am going to want some plants that are not going to harm my Ig, but at the same time I want the tank to look good. Does anyone have any recommendations there? I do plan on using false branches everywhere for her to climb on, but wouldn't be opposed to some sort of short rooted tree that won't grow terribly high.
I apologize for a long first post, I will hopefully be posting pictures on this long journey for the perfect indoor Ig home.
