That poor iguana! I have never seen anything quite like that; I'm not sure if its a terrible burn (possibly from a heat rock) or some sort of fungus or disease but you definitely should have a vet take a look at him. Could you post again after he has been to the vet? I would love to hear the vets opinion. That poor iguana... he has beautiful eyes.

the vet said that the problem was high humidity and lack of UV. he gave me some antibiotic cream and vitamin A. the guy who gave me the iguana and it's terrarium said that the UV neon was new but it seems that he was lying. anyhow, i got a new neon 5.0 UV and i began antibiotics and vitamin treatment... things should get better now

Thanks for the update recruit I haven't heard of the Neon brand before, does it have UVB or just UVA? Iguanas need UVB to absorb calcium so just a UVA light wouldn't be enough. Where do you buy them?

Oh, duh, I know that brand I actually have one of those right now. I've heard from other iguana owners who have nifty gadgets that detect UVB that their UVB output can decrease up to 50% in 6 months instead of the advertised 1 year. I've had mine for a bit over 6 months now so since I don't have one of these nifty gadgets I'm due for a new bulb. I've found them much cheaper online. I have mostly gone with MegaRays but they have been having some production issues lately and even then sometimes they end up breaking the filament in the mail
