I have to say adoption is such a good thing. When Rambo was recently adopted out our friend came by to visit and my concern was how she reacted to him. Rambo was never very warm to strangers and would often hide when too many people were in the house. When Dom told me our friend had stopped over my first question was " did he hold her" and then "how did she react to him?". If either of these questions weren't answered perfectly then I would have said no to him taking her. I firmly believe if you take the time to visit the iquanas you have to choose from and get a "feel" for them, you will be able to make the right choice. I have talked to our friend and he is very happy with Rambo (renamed Pearl). He is even able to handle her already and she is actually content to lay with him on the couch and watch TV. She never did that with any of us! Good luck in your search, only good can come out of it.

That's so awesome, Tammy! I hadn't heard that Rambo found a new home. I'm so glad it's a fit for her and her new slave.

Oh, sorry Steph, my bad-
Rambo was adopted out about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Her name is Pearl now! LOL She only lives about 5 blocks from us. ;D
Tammy went over to do a home-visit with her last night and she reports that all is well.
Pearl has taken to her new owner Paul in every way. She doesn't poop on him, like she did to each and every one of us each and every time you held her; and she takes food from his hand, something she never would do for us.
So, sounds like they are a perfect match!

I have 3 males and 1 female. My males seem to like affection more than reptar (my female). Grotto and Zilla are like dogs, they will just melt to be held and pet. But dont let them not get their way cause then there is a MAJOR attitude change! And you do have to be more careful around breeding season. Zilla as sweet as he is will not let me touch Reptar (his wifey) during breeding season. He has actually bit me cause I took her out of the cage and not him.
Reptar on the other hand has never ever gotten nasty or tried to whip or bite anyone. She is very friendly but doesnt like being cuddled or pet. But I think that is just her personality. And I have had problems with her laying eggs.
I will have to agree, dont chose by gender. You will find that bond and you will just know. Best of luck to you!

ok. so let me get this straight, if an ig is comfy with you they will take food out of your hand? Fluffy LOVES me to hand feed her treats and her greens when I'm making her salad, but Hoodini closes his eyes to shut me out when I try to do that to him, than again he's fairly new to us. so maybe he'll warm up with time. After all, he was being housed with an 8 yo little girl that just LOVED to paint his nails and take bubble baths with him...poor guy! but thats why hes with me now

Hi Ashley- It sure would be an indication of comfort if and when he does take the greens out of your hands. That's usually a huge step in Iguana taming. Poor hoodini My heart breaks for him. Painted nails and bubble-baths! Poor baby needs an Iggy shrink now. Just keep telling him he's strong and handsome and masculine and all the pretty female IGs want him! LOL Good luck in the taming.
