There has been several posts on people aquiring, by whatever means, a second iguana. While this is fine for those that know how iguanas react, are igsperienced, and make the appropriate accomodations for them...you will hear of VERY FEW of them that are actually housed together.
Occasionally there is the very rare occurance of igs housing together the get along. Zoos can do it because they have the room for individual "space". Some homes can do it...because they have the room for individual space...such as entire rooms, but mostly they have their own enclosures.
Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Get better soon!
I agree with you 100%. It is downright dangerous to most Iguanas to house them together. I've read so many horror stories about it. It only takes an instant and one or both are injured and require a vets care.
Folks need to be very responsible about this. I know first hand how much you can fall in love with Iguanas, but you must always realize they are solitary animals and need to be housed separately. Not to mention the stress on the Ig even if they "get along".
Iguanas will kill another Iguana who is perceived as a threat or an invader. Make no mistake. They can be vicious to one another and it can end in death.
Folks with multiple Igs should follow your links and read up on it. You must be prepared to re-house or re-home and also be prepared for costly vet visits in case of an emergency.
Thanks for your excellent insights. You make a serious point that should be taken to heart.
Dominick you are right. You must take alot of care and responability when you have more than one Iguana.
As you know, we have 3 iggys and all of them are housed seperatly, and each one of them have their own quality time out of their enclosures to mingle with us. And each one has their own bath time and ect...
We have had folks ask us are they frindly to each other? And the response is no they are not. We would never even give any of our guys or girls to be out together.
You are right this is a very good issue and folks need to know that these animals are very teritorial and will if given the chance, kill each other!
So you have to take care and be very concious of them and use common sense and read and learn all that you can, everyone will be happy and healthy.
