Does anyone know if there is anyway to speed up a male ig getting over his seasonal aggression? Our male has been showing breeding season aggression of an unacceptable level since December. I don't want to have to turn him into a shoe, but if this doesn't end soon I'm not sure I'll have much choice! ;-)

The only suggestion I know of is to shorten the length of time he is exposed to UVB. (like from 12 to 9 hours) Seems like it was MK's "iguanas for Dummies" that I read that in. Anyone else have anything?

Hi Roc-
Yes, there are methods like Tesa described. Basically you would be cooling him off for a spell. Since UVB energizes them, lack of it calms them a bit.
A luv sock is another method to help him get over his hormonal imbalance.
Just for the record, Rex's first heat lasted 8 months!!!
Check out MK's book. It's all in there.

I've lost track of how many times we've tried cutting him off from UVB, light, etc. And for some odd reason, Bailey shows absolutely no interest in any kind of lovesock.

Hi Rox-
I had the same issue. Unless Rex could eat it, he has no interest in a love sock.
We ended up securing him in his cage for the 8 months until he was able to be handled again. He was extremely vicious the whole time and acted very crazy.
But then one day Poof! The demons left and he was his old self again. He never experienced a heat after that. If he did, we never noticed it. I think when he goes into heat now we chalk it up to a bad-mood day.
Good luck, remember, this too shall pass!

Dom,
Thanks for the encouraging words. It gives me hope. We have the reptarium now, so keeping him isolated wont be a problem. But EIGHT MONTHS! Lord, I hope we don't have to put up with this for four months! Or, if we do, I hope he turns out like Rex and never goes through it like this again. What an ordeal!

Dons season didnt last very long this year and he wasnt the least bit interested in his igmate/luv sock. He did however like to lie on it hugging it. We ordered him an igmate, waited for it to arrive, and when it did we heated up the pad inside, let him at it and..... nothing! He just walked past it and ran upstairs in his usual manner to sit on his hammock. After that he just took to lying on it and that was the end of it. Maybe when hes older and has figured out what its for he will benefit from it
