Don't ya just love the days when your cute little iguana becomes satan from hell? I have to laugh everytime I think of this even though it hurts like hell; but when Zilla is having one of his satan days and just don't want to be handled (Too bad, I do it anyway...and I pay dearly), he is quite the talented little craphead. It all starts with the oh-so-famous alligator death roll. What is so amazing is that when he's death rolling in my hands, he can whip the same spot on my back with his tail every single roll. And guess who wins....not me. I find it totally amazing how he can pinpoint a target with his tail and hit every time while rolling. I believe its time to send a video to "Funniest Animals".

LMAO Joseph-
They sure are talented with that tail. My kids went to school consistently with whip marks on their faces! Thank God when they get older they calm down on the whipping.
Rex has taken to Croc rolls when he is outside now. He wants to be on the ground and no longer likes you holding him and walking around (this is new this year). I was riding my bike last week, holding Rex in the "football" hold, he started rolling, I secured him, he started to climb up on my shoulder, I had hold of his tail (near the base).
Then he decides to go over my shoulder and down my back to get off. All the while I'm trying to keep riding! So, now I have him by his tail, he's half way down my back and decides to croc-roll on me! I nearly crashed the bike trying to stop and secure him. At one point I had him by his tail hanging upside down in mid-air and twirling like a top! People were stopping their cars and asking if I needed help. One guy was hysterical laughing. He thought the Ig had jumped on me while I was riding my bike. When I told him this was NJ and not FL where the feral Igs live and that he was my pet, he burst out laughing. We talked and he walked away with a brochure! Hehe.
No more bike riding with Rex!

I'm sorry Dom, but I would have had to laugh (and am laughing) at that bizarre sight. You know what's really amazing? I can bench press 365 lbs., leg press over 1000 lbs., and dead lift 405 lbs., and cannot out-muscle my iguana. And he's not even full grown yet!!! Once he starts into death roll, tail-whipping frenzy, it's over. Sometimes he doesn't even have to roll. He just digs in with those wonderful little claws and puts on a grip that would make Arnold Schwarzenneger proud. I don't believe I've won a round yet...and probably never will. LOL

Man I don't have much trouble with Bob. Taking away the leverage is key as well as stopping the tail about mid way down. When Bob is really bad I have his tail under one arm, back legs and tail base in one hand, his head near my elbow with my hand over the top of him -- immobilized. He comes out of that looking like "What? Why did you do that?" and is back to normal. When he tried to gator roll I just grab the base of his tail and pick him up -- get my hand under his front legs and he calms down.

This was supposed to more of a laugher.....but Mark, personally I don't mess with Zilla's tail; even the base. I know their less apt to lose their tails as adults, but still the chances are there. When Zilla wants to gator roll, there's a reason; and I believe that grabbing any part of his tail may invoke a drop, something I'm not willing to chance. Please reconsider doing this bro.

Dominick, buddy that mental image just made my day! I laughed so hard I sprayed coffee all over my screen! It's a wonder you weren't on the news: Vicious rabid lizard attacks bicyclist!
On the subject of croc rolling. When Zok starts that I just press her, belly down, against my body and it stops her in her tracks!

Usually when I grab the base of his tail I have a leg in the hand hold or a whole finger over and infront of his leg. The base of Bob's tail is now bigger around than I can reach with one hand. Then it is less than a second until I have my left hand and arm under him.
I don't know what you are thinking about riding with an iguana of any size. I ride more and am better on a bike than most but I don't want the distraction of Bob while I am on either of my bikes especially if I am clipped into the pedals.

This is Bob's new trick, I almost plan on it happening at least once per outing.
First off you guys have read that he is great on my shoulders. Today I only had to grab him a handful of times during an hour outside.
Well I will put his leash on him then put him on my shoulder. He will get comfy which usually involves climbing from one shoulder to the other. Somehow he wraps the leash around my neck then he decides to climb down and strangle me with the leash.

lol Mark! Thrasher does the same thing to me. (It may be my imagination, but it seems like she does it most often when we are in the vet's office)

I guess I'm lucky! Iggi has never bit, tail whipped, or deliberately scratched us! In fact, when I am wearing shorts, and Iggi wants to climb up on me from the ground, she will look at my legs, then look up, and jump up and grab my shorts, to climb up me, without scratching my legs. Maybe it's the fact she's a female, or maybe the unique way we have raised her.
