After reading numerous times that your iguana is not supposed to sleep all day, I have a question. Kyo dozes in her basking spot. This is not considered sleeping, is it? She lays there, in the swim position (and still on MY thermometer) and takes little cat naps. She is still alert (any time anything moves, she opens her eyes). BTW, I bought a second thermometer, same exact kind, put it right next to the first one, and she ignores it!
Second question: We measured her when we got her (late Jan/early Feb) and she was 18" long stl. I measured her again in the middle of March, and she was 21" long. As of last week, she was 24" long. 6" in 4 months? Does that sound right? She seems to have continually shed throughout the 4 months also.
Thanks, Cyndi

Hi Cyndi. I'm not sure on your first question. It does seem they like to bask with their eyes closed, almost like us sunbathing with our eyes closed. And just like us, they may actually fall asleep at times while doing this. As far as the growth rate; sounds right to me. Zilla underwent growth spurts just like your talking about. Iguanas grow very rapidly, especially juveniles. In fact, Zilla is almost 3 years old and still goes through some tremendous growth spurts. So don't worry. It's very normal that your iguana is in fast development. Keep up the great work, and soon Zilla and Kyoto will be large enough to destroy states like New Jersey. LOL Joe

Thanks for the info, I was starting to think we had a growth hormone problem Gosh, I swear we must live too close to a nuclear power plant or something! Everything in the house grows fast (and large)! My oldest son, 16, is on par for 6'6", 236 lbs, and wears a size 16 shoe. My middle child is 15, 6' but only wears a 12 (so far). I won't even comment on my 8 year old daughter, who likes to say that she is the perfect size to be an emporer penguin! Unfortunately, I keep growing sideways Thanks again, Cyndi

The dozing is perfectly natural. Iguanas are complete "lounge lizards"! Lazy things just lay in the sun and wait to be fed! Gee where do I get a life like that!

lol at your household growth rate Cyndi! We have a very similar problem in mine, particularly with the teenage boy getting huge and the mom growing sideways. lol As far as sleeping all day, it sounds like she is being perfectly normal. The growth rate is great also and the constant shed goes right along with it. My female, while recuperating from MBD, grew from 15 inches in 12 months. Gotta luv it!
