I buy a bunch of different greens, cut them all up with cooking scissors and then put them in ziplock bags. I also push on them to get all the air out. I can usually get about 2-4 weeks worth of food out of a batch.

I do it daily. I'm really beginning to think about experimenting with some "methods" and see how they work. Shaun, you must not be feeding Dandelion Greens. They'll only last about a week max. They get all nasty and slimy brown YUCK!

Hi Shaun-
That's how I do it! All green together in one batch and all "salad" stuff in another. Then feeding is simply taking a handful of each and mixing it in the bowls!
Works for me too!

I generally buy 3 bunches of collards and one bunch each of 3 other greens. After washing them, I tear them by hand, spread them out on the kitchen table and have a fan blowing on them for awhile to get rid of the excess water. Then I put each type of green into a seperate ziploc bag with a paper towel shoved in it. Mine will generally stay fresh for about 2 weeks. (With the exception of collards, and I have YET to see them get soggy.) I've had people tell me to get a salad spinner to make it easier than spreading them all out on the table, but considering how SMALL the salad spinners I've seen are.....and the quantity of food my pig girl goes thru, I think that would take just as long.
As for veggies... I usually buy three kinds as well. I peel and chop enough for about 3 days worth of feeding. The rest stay in the fridge.

ah okay, just making sure. I've seen a couple posts that made it sound like most people updated and changed their salads daily.. which would be impossible for me.

Honestly
I was not kidding on my (above post) I make sure
#1 The are cleaned and Dried when I get them home ,
#2 I literally get ALL the air out of the Zip lok bag by closing the bag except one corner ( l leave just about 1/4 inch open ) and suck all the air out ,and the quickly close the last bit of the bag.
The picture above was taken shortly after i Purchased them .
But they will stay fresh ALLOT longer this way...
Try It you will see.

Now that I think about it, have you guys seen those infomercials about plastic containers with a little pump on the top? They are like tupperware but you pump it like a bike tire to suction all the air out... that might be worth investing. I'll look into it. ;D

How Long...
Hard question I suppose it will be dependand on how fresh they were at the store..
That picture was taken on November 13th 2003
and I just purchased some new ones this Friday.
so in my case those lasted around 3 weeks and there was little left. I include them in Yoda salad everyday.
I did pick some out allong the way ..that were going bad ...but I assure you they will last longer if you can get all the air out and ensure they are dry.
How much longer ...Im not sure...

I found that inserting a drinking straw into the bag in one corner(after the rest is sealed tight )works easiest. If you were handy with some duct tape you could make a attachment for your vacum cleaner using a straw . I might try to make something up like this and let you know. James and Yoda
