Twice I've tried to feed Puppy some watermelon and twice he goes at it very verociously BUT then when he had a mouth(throat) full he kinda coughs at me. First time I seriously though he was gonna spit it in my face. Is he just getting it caught in his throat being a lil piggy or does he not like it? I don't get it! Oh and just so yall know the watermelon was cut up in pieces no bigger than 1/2 inch squares. This brings another question to mind, do iguanas throw up?

When I've accidently given eki something too large he'll start to eat it then spit it up. Poor guy I think he dislikes his collards now. o.O But he hasn't thrown up food. He just spits it out if too large.

Puppy didn't spit it out, he opened his mouth, showed me his watermelon, coughed once and swallowed it.

It sounds to me like he's either getting a little too much in his mouth at one time - or the juices from the watermelon were dribbling down his throat and he wasn't ready for it! I know that's happened to me before with juicy food, and I end up coughing too! LOL
That's great that he likes it! Its a great food for rehydration!

Do you mean 1/2 inch cubes? I dunno about everyone else but I always cut the fruit to about 1/2 inch one direction, but then I cut it thin the other.....kinda shaped like an egg noodle. I figure if I was like an ig and couldn't chew, I wouldnt much rather try to swallow a noodle whole as opposed to something shaped more like dice. ;D

That's how I cut them too Tesa, and assumed that's what she meant too? Maybe not, and that would explain the coughing. 1/2" square is rather large for an iguana mouth, unless it's a very very large Iguana. I also sometimes cut it in 1/2" depth wise, if it happens to be like 1/2" cubed, because it's easier for them to get it into their mouths and manuver it if they don't have to open their mouths as wide as they'll go just to get it in. I love watching my babies eat any type of melons, with the juice running down their chins and stuff Makes me remember back to bein' a kid! LOL ~Nan

Yea they were cubed but they looked small enough. they were 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/4" like thin squares. But with how he had his little mouth and throat stuffed with them it seemed like too much. I cut all his greens down to 1/2" pieces too and all other veggies get shredded and tossed in. I also put a vitamin spray on the salad. Well not so much shredded as obliterated cuz I use a food processor instead of shredder.

Oh I would almost bet that he will like it!
Sounds to me like the melon peices were too big. Instead of cubing it try cutting them in strips (sort of like a green bean). Iguanas don't chew so the size that goes in their mouth is what goes down their throat.
If your iguana starts throwing up its a heads up that there is something wrong.

Its not common but lizards can regurgitate. And thats not good! It also happens sometimes when their temps are not high enough for digestion.

So you have a watermellon fit. Eki went literally WILD over nuked LIMA BEANS today. They were frozen so we had to nuke them to warm them. The smell alone got him going. As soon as they cooled a little and cut them some. He wouldn't stop eating them. It was so funny. He was literally trying to jump from my hand for them. Cute little guy.

Had a bit of a go at the bowl too, crazy lil lizard.
