I found Dandelion greens for 1.49 a bunch at a Meyer in Boilingbrook, IL. I was so excited and happy I got the biggest bunch I could which was at least 2lbs of greens!! Not to mention collards, mustards and all that was at 1.49 too! Eki isn't a huge eater so it's Dandelions, and collards with mango, cantelope, green pepper, yellow squash week! Occasional banana. He loves the banana!
He literally jumped onto my Fiance for the dandelion greens after ONE BITE!!! It was his first time having them. He's in love!
Btw. I !LOVE! Meyers! They rock on produce.

EsotericComposer, Glad to hear it. Lothar feels the same way about the dandelion greens. You should also try the flowers for your little one, he goes absolutely wild for them. Unfortunately, its a hit and miss situation finding them around here. One week I'll get them and then they seem to vanish for the next week or two. Nice thing about summer, I grow a heck of a crop on my yard.

Yes Huff goes batty over the flowers. When I first got him I received my first MegaRay EB. At that time they were using this large round yellow sticker that kind of looked like it was a big giant dandelion flower. He kept trying to eat it. For a few weeks here there was lots of flowers but now they have gone to seed. Luckily I have a iguana friendly landlord who does nothing to the lawn. So I had free dandelions and flowers for a while.

Wasn't it Patrick that's your iguana friendly landlord?? ;D Zair and the girls go nuts over the flowers, too. Unfortunately we don't have anything like a Myers here. I've heard a lot of good things about that store though. The ones in our yard are off limits this year. Early chemical spraying in the fields next to us put a stop to them.

I haven't had much luck finding a good variety of produce at the Walmarts here in Colorado. Maybe a different type of supermarket might have a better variety for you. One thing you might try with the food mixture is to pour some melon juice on top of it. This makes it smell better and taste better, your ig will go nuts over it. A favorite of my two igs is yams, I always grind up a yam to add to their mix of solid veggies.

Here's what I find in our TN Wal-Mart: collard greens turnip greens mustard greens beet greens (have to buy the whole beet bunch though...yuk) cilantro green beans okra snow peas (pre-bagged) butternut squash acorn squash spaghetti squash fresh pumpkin (canned gives diarrhea...fresh does not) yams parsnips cactus leaves (ethnic produce - remove spikes) jicama (ethnic produce) colored bell peppers (red, orange and gold) jalepeno peppers Then there's the fruit, of course. I don't feed much fruit, but there's a good selection of those, too.
I've gone over to Kroger's here lately and have been buying a lot of the greens there. They seem to last longer and they're cheaper. Kroger's also has better bagged selections. Since Wal-Mart has changed the brand of pre-mix the selections have a lot more lettuce. Kroger has an awesome brand...I think it's Dole that has the Mediterranean blend. Awesome stuff. They also carry arugula. An excellent green. I still have to get some stuff from Wal-Mart, but not a whole lot anymore.

beet greens (have to buy the whole beet bunch though...yuk) Hehe...you can always use the beets and make borshch with them. Its actually surprisingly good. I swore up and down I'd never eat the stuff, but being a gracious guest in Russia a few years ago kinda made it necessary for me to at least try it. Heh...I ate several bowls of it in that one sitting, it was excellent. ;D

I just looked at a few recipes for making it and even the easy one takes hours! I know hubby would like it. Maybe when the weather gets a little colder I'll try something new... ;D.

Ik, You should try the borscht with a spoonful of sour cream. There is nothing quite like it in the world. I am a bit biased though, being Ukrainian.

LP, I never eat it any other way. Sour cream is a necessary topping.

LOL...it is pretty exciting finding something they really like. I'm going to have to pop your bubble, though. Tomatoes are very high in acids and can cause some real stomach problems. It may be the red color in them that they ate so well, so try replacing that with red bell pepper instead. My crew eats better with red colors in the salad.

Yup...red peppers are a hit with my igs too. I try to pick a pepper that stands out in color from the rest of the items in their salad, and red usually wins (my choices are red, green, yellow, and orange.) Color variation is probably the most important aspect in getting your iguana interested in their food, and keeping that interest. BTW...about the beets, you can feed the root, in small amounts, occasionally, to your iguana, but its the greens that are a great food item. If you're looking for something to do with the beets that you cut the greens from, I'm sure either LP or myself can give you a good recipe or two. V, I see you use jalapenos. Have you ever tried habaneros? I'm just wondering if iguanas react the same way we do to capsaicins, since jalapenos are fairly high in them, and habaneros are off the charts. Both are an excellent source of nutrients though.
