Are bananas good for iguanas? One of my friends whos had one for about 3 yrs told me they love em. Just wanted to know before I go making yet another mistake.

Bananas are ok as occasional treats, but shouldn't be a regular part of your ig's diet. They contain a fairly high level of tannins, which make it difficult for him to absorb the protein in his food.

bannanas are fine, most iggies love them. They make a good treat for them. Not a primarily something to put in their salad. Just hand feed them is what i do, but jessie is really tame. Your iggy will probably love them....

Yup...iguanas love them...but "them" don't love iguanas. They're very high in phosphorous which throws the Calcium:Phosphorous ratio way out of whack with a 1:3.3 ratio. They're high in potassium, too. It's best to feed only a small amount no more than once a month. They can eat the peel, too...:-)

I just gave her 2 slices (about 1 mm thick) to eat... and I don't think she's touched them at all.... thanks for clearing that up.
