Sunday was a very busy day at our house. Me and my husband renewed our wedding vows after 14 months of separation. In the morning I took care of Gil as usual... bath, potty time, an excellent platter of food.
Well, as you may know, Gil (who is 39" STL) is housed in a 250 gallon aquarium that we got for free from my husband's mother. It's an AQUARIUM for goodness sake! So it has GLASS tops. Definately NOT a good idea.
I guess because I had so much on my mind, I didn't make absolute sure that the top was properly seated into the ledge and it fell into the enclosure. I FREAKED!
The glass shattered all over the enclosure (NOT tempered, either). Thank GOD Gil had NOT dived into his plate like usual. He had went to the other end of the enclosure (it's 7 feet long). But boy when that glass broke, he was as far on the other side as he could get!
I immediately went to the other end and got him out. I looked him over for cuts and/or glass sticking out of him, but he seemed OK.
So on a very busy day we commenced on the cleaning of the cage project: cleaning up broken glass, tossing the fresh salad and making a new one, getting the cage carpet out and vacuuming the cage up.
When we put him back in, he walked cautiously around making sure everything was safe. I headed off to get my hair done... while at the salon, I notice a small amount of blood on the sleeve of my shirt. I immediately called home to have my husband check him out.
His tail had two cuts on it. Thank goodness that it wasn't cut off, though! It's a little tender, and I'm putting triple antibiotic ointment on it.
I can't wait until we move so we can build him a "real" home!
