Jessie, Dom, Tammy, Bobmac....I'm so sorry Neera wasn't able to be saved. Unfortunately, sometimes the battle is already past the point of no return, no matter how hard we try with every resource we have. You guys have been awesome in your extraordinary efforts to pull her thru. I know how much time, energy, phone calls, and tears have gone into this poor gal. It really hurts to have that much invested & still not be able to save her. Well...in a sense, you did save her. You took her in, gave her the love and attention that she prolly never had before, fed her, cradled her in your arms, and told her how wonderful she was. Even tho just for a short time, I know she felt loved and cherished. and now you've made the hardest decision ever, to help her end her suffering. At least she won't have to make that journey alone...she now has a family to see her thru to the end. (I really hope that you're able to get a necropsy done. Not only will it help you & others learn, but will also give you some closure to this heartwrenching course of events.)
Good-bye, sweet Neera. I'm so sorry that you had to spend your life suffering at the hands of stupid humans. May your tragic story inspire all of us to get off our complacent butts and take on a mission to educate, every chance we get, and to do everything we can to protect more of these innocent creatures from human indifference and igorance, and abuse.
Jess, in a strange sort of way, I think Neera came back to life just to say good-bye, and to thank you for taking such good care of her, showing you that your excellent care has made even the sickest ig perk up enuf to bid final farewells.
