As most of you know I adopted Herbie a week ago. She still isn't eating as well as I'd like to see, but we will keep working on that. Her burns are being treated with Silvadene. The thing I'm concerned most about is her chest. Directly in between her front legs it is very concave. It appears to me that it may be abnormal. She does however hang from the side of her cage almost constantly, so maybe it's just the way the muscles have developed. Oh my....I forgot what it's like worrying about them when you haven't come to know them well yet. I'm looking for pictures to compare her with. Can any of ya'll help me out with shots of your ig in a "standing" position so that the chest and belly can be seen?

Can't see much from the pic as there is glare across most of the center of the belly.
There looks to be very developed muscles at her shoulders front shoulders (pecks if you will), probably from hanging on the walls.
I would hold off on rushing to the vet over this alone until she fattens up a little. I think the sides of the ribcage are somewhat strong up there so if there is not enough to pack the belly that it one of the places it will show.
Along with this I would keep shoving good diet in front of her and taking he into real sun as much as I can.

Kyo looked like that when we first got her, but seems to have filled out since then. The vet we saw then didn't mention anything about it.
Even though, you can still see a little indentation sometimes if she stands just right... (she loves to hang and climb also).
Good luck, Cyndi

Mark, the "pecs" are exactly what Im talking about, not somewhere that should be packed with food. It's not a "skinny" problem either, but rather, more like her bones seem to be shaped weird. (by the way... packing good food into her and giving her real sunshine is a given isn't it?) ;D

Tesa...she looks fine. I have not had an ig that has that concave chest, but from the looks of it this isn't anything to worry about.
An x-ray can put your mind at total ease if you think it may be a strain on her internal organs in that area. I really don't think it's a problem, though.

Tesa I wouldn't worry about that either. Rambo and Rocky were also the same way when we got them. As they gained weight it wasn't as pronounced, but still visible. I wouldn't take her to the vet either. The gray area looks like it's been rubbed but that could be from her laying on it. Sort of like a callous.

If you pack food in the belly the diaphram is pushed further up and it limits the space of the other organs up there so they fill the concave area.
Could be just the shape of the individual. There were some guys on my floor freshmen year than had "holes" in the chests just like Herbie does.

It doesn't feel as if it's "flexible" enough to change shape from being fed alot. I guess I'm gonna TRY to not freak out about it. It doesn't seem to bother her at all. I really think it is developed that way from hanging so much. She even tries to sleep hanging from the walls! I've been waiting till she's really sleepy and then moving her to her bed and covering her with a blankey. The last 3 nights she has finally decided it's more comfortable to lay down rather than hang upright all night. She's such a sweetie.

With her hanging like that at least nail trimming will be easy. Let her get comfy on a piece of mesh and move around to the other side.
Worked great until Bob decided that he did want to climb hanging mesh anymore.

Tesa, Kyo has also slept hanging on the wall of her home, lol. And that is how I clip Kyo's claws...wait til she's hanging around, and just clip away

Well, she has behaved very well thru two pedicures already. I don't need to do it while she is hanging. I'm simply amazed at how docile she is. She occasionally tail whips and threatens to bite, but she doesn't follow thru. Thrasher has always been such a B. I attribute the difference to the fact that Herbie's previous owner cared about her, talked to her etc. Thrasher's PO just left her setting in a tank with little or no attention. When they did give her attention, it resulted in her being injured. anyway...the hanging on the wall thing bothers me cause it seems like she isn't relaxing. I wanna see her sleep with her legs all flung out behind her; relaxed and oblivious to the rest of the world. ;D
