I didn't want to come and post bad news, but now, I think Will needs your/our prayers. i post all the good stuff with him and just hope the bad stuff will go away. Once in a blue moon he eats. He's losing weight. yesterday and today he didn't eat and didn't poop either. His urates were orange today. he saw his doc yesterday, who drew blood to see how all his organs are doing. I'll get the results tomorrow. he gave me liquid calcium carbonate to give him twice a day and a HUGE great dane size, syringe to feed Willie with. I couldn't get his food pureed enough with what i had to go through this huge syringe. So I got a cuisinart mini blender/chpper. says you can puree with it. i think I'll try again now. Willie had a busy day at the docs yesterday and today he is very quiet. I'm getting the calcium in him okay, but no food.
Please pray for my little guy. He needs our prayers and love. Thanks nance

Yippee I just wanted to add that I was able to puree into liquid his greens, fruit and pediolyte on my new little cuisanart.. I was able to get some in his tiny mouth and he swallowed it. Hooray! I'll be giving him more and more. If i can get food and calcium in him and deal with whatever his blood work shows.....he should come back okay. Prayers are still needed for his recovery though. Many Thanks Willem's Mom

The orange urates worry me. It could be liver/kidney problems, but you're doing what you can for him. I am sending such BIG thoughts and hope for recovery and finding out what might be wrong with poor Willem...

Nance -
I'm so sorry you are going through this! I will definatly add Will (and you!) to my prayers!
You are an excellent, attentive mom to Will, and I have every confidence that he is in the most excellent hands he could possibly be in.
I know how nerve wracked you must be right now, waiting to hear from the vet, think positive, I will too - and I'll add extra prayers just for you guys.
(((hugs)))

Thank each of you for your gentle and loving replies. I just tube fed him and I'm not good at that yet! Some of it went where it should, some on Will and some on me. He sure needs a bath now and I need a shower I'm bugging Willie's doc's front desk for the results of his blood tests. The only thing I know is the results aren't in yet. I have concern about the orange urates, too. It has come on very suddenly. One day they were yellow like the color of a hard boiled egg yoke. The next day, yesterday they were orange and no poop. no poop the day before either. There's nothing to do now, but wait. Maybe a warm bath will feel soothing and maybe he'll poop. I'll write again when I the blood test results. Thank you. Love and hugs back to each of you. Nance

Just hopped online to see if the results were in - Please know you're not worrying alone! I agree with everyone else about the color of the urates and lack of poop, but I'm praying it is something that is simple to treat so you can get him on the path to healing and back to being his normal, sweet, inquizitive (sp?) little self Please be sure to post as soon as you know. I'll be checking back as soon as I get home from running my errands. Still Praying, ~Nan

Boy, you all are really special to me.Your words mean so much.... Your love and caring. Thank you from my heart, for standing by me through this.
I got the blood results at 7:30 tonight after bugging his doc several times today.
Willie has hepatitis and is dehydrated. I am so ashamed to share this. i can't imagine what kind of neglect has brought him to this point, but that isn't my focus now. How to bring my little guy back to health...I'm adding a second humidifier to his enclosure. that should help and 2-3 baths a day.
I have to get better at the syringe feeding. I'm just so afraid of gagging him. All day long now, he lays where he can see me. I know he gets comfort from that. I pray he didn't get this sick from my neglect.
Nanshe, you are so right! He loves life and has been inquisitive since the day we brought him home. In the car coming home with us, he looked out of the window and the windowshield all the time..
I'm going to get his other humidifier now and see if my dh will help me with a late night feeding. i would love to think of him going to sleep with some food in his tummy. Thank you, each one, for your support and for caring about little Willie.
More soon as there's more to say. Love, Nance.

(((((((((((((((((huge hugs))))))))))))))))) I am so very sorry to hear about Willem having hepititis - I just can't express how very sorry I am Did the Dr. say anything about long term care for an Ig with Hepititis? And although I'm afraid to ask this - what is the outlook? I cannot imagine what YOU could have possibly done to cause this! Please don't beat yourself up over this! Isn't there a pretty good chance that he was either pre-disposed to hep or liver disease? Or even that it was caused by who ever took care of him before he was lucky enough to find you? It is so obvious that he is happy, and LOVES you - just him always wanting to be where he can see you tells me that. You are so very attentive, observant, tuned in, and empathetic to Willem and his needs, that you truly are a number one Ig Mom - and that really is the truth. I'm curious what else the vet said (you mentioned there being more to say) - but no matter WHAT the vet said, I just find it hard to believe that with all the wonderful, dilligent care you've provided him, that you caused this in any way - honestly. ((((((((('nother hug for you and Wills))))))))))))))) ~Nan P.S. I've always wanted to ask, and have never been able to figure out - what does "DH" mean? I have to laugh every time I see it, because "damn husband" always comes to mind! ROTFL!

Hi Nan.. Here's a little more..I don't know anything about hep, either. but the doc said there is hepatitis from bacterial infection and viral infection. I don't quite get this, because he went on to say that Willie's liver has been effected by toxicity for a long period of time. how? my cleaning sol'n..nope..I use 3% chlorine solution, what in the world else could it be? I rinse his veggies well, so it can't come from that. I drew a blank, so that's when he said it could have been caused by bacteria on food I left out too long. I can see that as a possibility. If it's bacterial hep, he says it will be easy to cure with an antibiotic. If it's a viral hep..he says that's a completely different story. Dominick helped me last evening to understand the difference between humidity and hydration. Will has plenty of humidity, but I need to get more fliuds in him. When my dh ( dear husband or damn husband..your choice ) helped last night and this morning, we were able to give him pretty large amounts of very liquid slurry using pedialyte. I'm going to get him some watermelon and gatorade to add to his water in a little while. I think Willie's doc thinks i'm just a lay person who happens to have an iguana. So he doesn't give me detailed info. That means I have to ask for deeper information and since i never thought of hepatitis before i didn't know all the questions to ask. He's a wonderful doc, but much too busy for the sake of his animal patients and himself. It took me 11 hours to reach him by phone yesterday. Dominick has been guiding me in terms of assisted/forced feeding, the color of urates, etc. I've written to BobMac and asked for his help, too. I know that will be top grade information offered in a way I can understand. Right now, Will is in his favorite position. Sort of dozing, but keeping one eye on me. Thanks, Nan! I appreciate your caring and support very much.

Then perster the living daylights out of him till he does! Willems YOUR baby and YOU are the one paying the bill. You are well within your rights to badger him till you get your answers! If he doesn't like it then I suggest another vet. That holier than thou attitude some vets (and human doctors) have just drives me NUTS!

Oh my Nance!! I just now saw your post here! I'm SO very sorry to hear about Willem's illness! I don't know enough about hepatitis to give you any definate answers, but I will do some research and let you know if I come up with anything useful. Now, don't go blaming yourself and saying its due to neglect! We all know you do NOT neglect that baby!!
Glad to hear you've been in touch with Dom on the hydration efforts. This will be very important for Willem. One suggestion: If the syringe is a problem for you like it is for me, try a baby medicine dropper. (you know, the kind with the squeezy bulb on the end?) They work great for us. Please keep us updated, and know you are both in my prayers. ((((hugs))))

I think we will all learn from your experience here, Nance. I wish the best for you both. It is not your fault, you did nothing wrong. Sh*t happens...that's my motto. Been trying to find another bumper sticker for my car that says that.
He is getting the best possible care you can give him. I have faith in you and that whatever comes of this...he has the best care and always had...!!!
We can not always control what happens in life, but we can control how we choose to deal with it.

I don't know what happened here. I wrote you a very heart-involved reply of thankfulness for the support I've received from each of your posts. Your assurance that it was not my neglect that brought this on to little Will has meant alot to me. I'm still stuggling with that, but the more I'm learning..I'm beginning to realize I would have to have been a wretched Mom, and I know I wasn't. Your efforts to ease my guilt have helped me through this time very much.
Willie seems pretty good today. Takes his slurppies like a trooper, big poops, white urates, lots of urine. Who knows. I started a new thread with the factual stuff that I know about and am learning about Hepatitis. I hope it will help us all to learn something.
Love and blessed thanks to everyone..those who wrote and those who remained silent, but cared.
Love to all
