The drop/drip method of feeding is working very well for Willie. Thank goodness. For us and Will it is so much more humane than it was when we tried to squirt all that stuff in his mouth and just let him deal with it.
What I'm doing now, is run a drop down his nose and let it run over his lips. As he sticks out his tonque to lick the drip, I start squeezing drops, one after another slowly, right unto his tongue. he laps it up like a kitten lapping up milk. it is really cute. I think he happily took 2 teaspoons of the ensure/banana slurry just now. This slurry is just to keep his nutrition up. I still have to drip fluid in him to rehydrate him. That will come next. I have two humidifiers going..(his enclosure is very large, 9x7x4) I hope he is inhaling moisture. This is a very time consuming method for feeding and rehydrating I can do it because I'm home all day, most days. I expect him to be eating on his own SOON!

GOOD DEAL! Its nice to hear that he is going to be ok. Having a Vet that you are comfortable with and who will talk to you is very important. I have always went with my gut reaction to them. If I don't feel comfortable with them I find someone else!

Thanks for sharing my happiness with me!!! It does feel good to have a vet who inspires confidence.
We had a little/BIG milestone this evening. Just when I think I've found a successful way of feeding Willie, he decides he doesn't like it.
So I took him to a peaceful corner in our kitchen, put on a meditation cd and sat with him. I put a piece of turnip leaf, about 4 x 4, on the table. I just let him eye it and in a few minutes he walked over and chomped the whole thing down. Hooray!

That is INCREDIBLE news! It would be awesome if he'd start eating on his own again!
You're doing such an awesome job with him!!!

Oh Boy! I think Willie has turned the corner on his anorexia. I'm still hydrating him with water, pedialyte and dandelion granuales( sp). HE is eating some collard greens and acorn squash all by himself. I think we're over the hump. Thank you, God! And Many thanks to all the members on IZ for your support and encouragement.

Hi Nance-
In the midst of making your way through this incredibly stressful situation, you have also managed to provide an incredible source of information in this thread. Well done!
As you well know, I agree that you are a terrific Iguana-mom and deserve many kudos for all the hard work you put into making Willem healthy again. Your dedication and willingness to explore and learn (and call Bob Mac on the phone, LOL) returned incredibly positive and healing energies for Wil.
Light and love dear friend! And continued healing thoughts and prayers for Willem.

Dear Dom, it is so nice to hear from you again. Thank you very much for taking the time to post and send your positive thoughts my way. I always knew you were there to help me whenever I needed it. You got me off to a great start with little Willie boy with prune juice and yogurt. Love and Light to you too, dear friend.
Merlin, Drako's Mom, dear prism_wolf, and special dear Nanshe, Tesa and Silly Woman...we made it! I knew you were each there. I could feel your strength, I can still feel it. Merlin, what did you call us the other day 'our ig family'? Sure feels like a family to me. Dear IguanaKing and Mark.I didn't forget either of you.. you both made real contributions to my understanding of what was happening with Will and Merlin I especially remember you for being pretty clear about needing a new vet. ha! how right you were.
Will get's another blood test in about week. I'll let you know what happens. The glass is always half full for me, but I keep a watchful eye.
With Blessings Love and Light, Nancy

Well, Willie is almost there. He is still a bit dehydrated. We know how to work on that
His liver is normal YAAAA! Went from 142 to 23. Normal is 10-80
He is almost infection free- heterophils (?) 43 normal is 50-80.
He is LOW on potassium 0.7 normal is 1.5-5.5. doc recommends bananas. Willie will love that.
I didn't have the report in front of me when the Dr. called, so I just wrote down what he said. After the phone call he faxed it to me and I see now quite a few things that are out of range. But his Dr. isn't concerned about anything. Thank Goodness. His recovery is slow, but he's coming along.
Love to all.
