Tesa and James, I have such a big smile on my face still this morning! Will ate a little more on the leaf before I took it out. Thank you both for sharing my happiness and thanks to everyone who has stayed with Will and Me through our ups and downs since this summer. I remember being at this point with him before, and then I worried he wasn't eating enough so... back to the syringe. I won't do that this time. Most likely the extension of this problem was my doing. Dear James, I'm sorry you had a crappy day yesterday. I sure hope today goes better. Love and thanks to all

That is EXCELLENT news Nance!!! I'm SO happy to hear that Will is beginning to eat on his own!! I am so happy that there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel for you with all of this - I know how much stress this must have been causing you - I have kept, and will continue to keep, you, your DH, and Will in my prayers (((hugs))) ~Nan

That's GREAT news Nancy!!! ;D Now, if you can just grind up his veggies and greens in a food processor, Willy will be able to eat even more. I'm glad to see that a little privacy is making him feel comfortable enough to eat. ;D

Willie is testing me to the max. The day before yesterday he ate a whole 1/2 leaf, yesterday he ate 1/2 that amount. Today he hasn't eaten a thing. I took your suggestion Sean and gave him a very nice plate of chopped up collard greens, curly mustard green w/ shredded summer squash and shredded acorn squash on top. I also put part of a collard green leaf by it as I thought that was his referred food. He has walked past it all showing no interest. It's at this point I've broken down in the past and gotten out the dropper for feeding. It's very hard not to do that now. His poop was okay, thick urates, but no urine. So I gave him about 1/2 tsp of water and pedialyte and liquid calcium. I have to stay away from him now. It's too hard to see him not eat.

Oh no...I'm sorry to hear that Nancy. Have you read the thread in which Veronica suggested pouring some melon juice over the food? Can you try handfeeding a small leaf or two of greens to him? I did this with Audrey when she was feeling lousy from the Baytril injections I was giving her, and it was enough to remind her that food is good. After eating those hand-fed pieces, she suddenly got up, walked to the plate she had been ignoring, and devoured every last piece of food. Maybe Willy just needs a jump start, but who knows? Apparently Veronica's melon juice suggestion worked pretty well for Nashe's kids, maybe it'll work for Willy.

Thanks, Sean. I hadn't seen Victoria's post. Melon juice sounds like a good. Last night I put a pinch of his ground up 'salad' on his basking ledge and then turned off his lights, saying good night. This morning that pinch of food was gone and it's not on the floor under his ledge, so maybe he ate it. He's hard for me to figure out... he's not consistent about where he feels safe to eat. I'll try both of your suggestions today. Here's hoping..and thanks!

Eki plays games with me and my bf. He won't eat if we're looking. But he will eat from our hands. For a while he wasn't eating much. But he eats when the lights are out. He's tricky.
Hang in there. Keep trying.

EC, I thinks part of what's happening with Will too. Thanks for your input. I've been reluctant to leave food in his enclosure over night, but maybe the greens are ok. I don't know.
I took Sean's suggestion this morning and took Will out (dogs in the bedroom) and tried to cozy up to him and tempt him with a nice crisp collard leaf. He was a nervous twit. Scared of everything..looking around for a source of danger and of course he didn't eat. I put him back and put the leaf near him. he ignored it totally. I went in his space to remove the humidifier water container, AND while I was standing next to him he cobbled up the leaf as if he were starving!
The only thing I can think of is my dh hung a skeleton on our front door for Halloween. I have no idea why, because it's in an protected entrance area, but it rattles all the time.( whoo hoo) Maybe it's that new noise that's freaking him. So the skelton is now laying over a chair until Halloween.
I'm sure this is mostly getting boring for our members, but maybe there will be a tip in here somewhere that will help someone else. I hope so.

You may want to put him a very quiet room during the halloween evening. To be honest. That doorbell will DRIVE HIM NUTS if noises now are worrying him. It'll ruin everything you've worked for. So maybe sitting outside may help keep kids from ringing the doorbell. Also maybe leaving the food in overnight is a good idea. I have no worries about leaving a pile of leaves for eki throughout the day I refresh them. I let him eat on his own free will. And he does just fine. With your willie maybe he'll eat if you sit by his cage/tank and watch him. Try that. Best of luck hun. Wish I was an expert. But we're both learning.

That's a good suggestion, EC. There will be so much confusion at the front door. I'll definitely shelter Will from that.

Good mother! :giggle: Where Eki is he's in our basement at my bf's. It's a furnished basement where we keep our pc's and tv and our living space away from his mothers. All he hears is the people walk upstairs, the dryer/washer and us. So he's away from doorbells or huge amounts of stress.

Please don't say anything or be happy for Will just yet. He can be such a roller coaster ride!
But PLEASE keep your fingers crossed for him. My little guy is eating more and more every day. By himself. Actually diving into his food with some aggression. The melon juice seems to have done the trick. I bought watermelon as I thought it would help hydrate him. The juice is gone from the container, but every day I squeeze a piece of watermellon over his food. And he goes for it. His poop looks good. Urates and urine, too.
Let's just hope he can keep it up. He has made me very happy and hopeful. I realize now I have to go slowly in my optimisim..so lets just keep him in our ig prayers
