i have two iguanas who i recently found to be both males they are about the same lenth but gator has more of a stocky build a few months ago the got into a bit of a tussle i did not see it when it happened i didnt even know that it happened until i noticed blood on my floor i saw jub jub sitting ontop of my head board i saw he had a little blood on his arm but i couldnt find a cut. i automatically assumed that it was broken because he walked with it up in the air. i called the vet but ifound that the distance from my house was too great .i gave him calcium supplements twice a week and he had at least six hours a day in the sun {i took both of my iggs out daily for a walk through the park} soon he began to walk normally. how ever becaause of the cold weather i havent been able to take them out side so i bought a uvb light from a petsmart, and i also havent been giving him any calcium supplements, but within the last two mos. ive noticed that jub jub has started walking on the front of his wrist with his hand facing backwards it dosnt seem to bother him much because he still uses this hand to climb bvut it is bothering me i did however find a vet that i can go to but im worried that he may amputate the hand it is still growing normally and the colors still the same but im still worried any advice would be much apreciated.

Awww, I don't know what your vet will tell you. Poor jub jub. I wish you well with this. Seems you have been a very good ig daddy. I hope someone who knows more than I do, will post for you

So, you couldn't see a visible wound on his arm? My female ig, Audrey has been recovering from a near-fatal attack by my male, Hercules, and she's slowly regaining the use of her hand. Its been more than two months, and she's still in the recovery process. Ig bites are very nasty and damage a lot of different systems in the body, most-likely your ig has suffered some nerve damage in that arm, just like Audrey did. Please take your ig to the vet and get x-rays. Also, if its a bite wound, your ig should get anti-biotic injections from your vet. I really don't think you need to worry about the vet wanting to amputate the hand, the favoring of the damaged limb is a normal part of the healing process. However, x-rays are definitely in order and anti-biotics also, because there is a serious risk of a life-threatening infection developing.

Im sure this must be a very hard thing to think about ...the possibility of a amputation...however..consider this for a moment.. Option A - NOt seing a vet and you risk a internall infection developing - Iguasa's are masters at hiding Illness -never forget this. A body wide infection could spread over just a few weeks if not days. Possible Results of this option .......well you get the picture Option B - Go see a vet and the worst case is the possibility of a amputation/ Iguanas are also amazingly adaptive and the loss of a hand would not kill the Iggy. Your Green buddy goes on to live a normall life missing one hand. In all liklyhood if there is still circulation and you dont allow a infection to set in....there is a good possibility of rehabilitation of the hand. The thing is the timing......to ensure a happy outcome I would suggest a quick visit to a vet. When will you feel worse ......dealing with a amputation ....or looking back wishing you still had that option....? I dont mean to sound blunt ....Im sure you will do the right thing. My iguana has been doing that too. And his hand is kinda dark. He hasn't been shedding lately either. But I can't bring him to the vet anymore. Iguana vets are pretty expensive in this city. Last time I brought him to the hospital, it was over $1,200. Anything anyone suggests?

A darkened limb suggests a broken bone. Is there any swelling in the affected limb?
