I also would like to get your opinion on his tail (Since you SEEM to know more then my VET) The poo and Mite infestation affected his tail too they said (They being the family we got him from 6 months ago) The tail works great and has sensation in it, but looks horrible!!! Some told me to break it off and see if it would grow back better looking, but I can't bring myself to do that. The looks don't bother me, but do you think it might be better for him? I will go take Pictures and put them on the same web site. Thanks. IN THE PICTURES, he is shedding and his tail is hard to shed with the way it is, but I keep it moist.

www.anapsid.org/vets this link may help you find a vet. Mineral oil you can get for about a dollar. I wouldnt use baby oil as it is scented and had too many additives. The shed on the tail looks as if its comming off just fine but since you are worried you could also soak him in the tub.And no DO NOT try to break his tail off. Only a qualified vet should do something like that.

Poor thing, looks like he's had a rough past. Find a good vet, the link from jfogle will help. Still ask if they have someone who specializes in herps though. sometimes there herp vet has left but they stay on the list. If you have a emergency vet hospital they may be able to refer you to a herp vet also, Worth a phone call. I would get in as soon as possible.
On top of all your already doing, Make sure hes getting water. The drainage = loss of fluids.

I have already given you THREE links to find a qualified vet. Here they are again: www.arav.org <---click on "Members www.herpvetconnection.comwww.anapsid.org/vetsThis is not a burn. It does not have the signature burn pattern. This is something else. Spiders are active year round inside the home. They don't hibernate. I'm not saying that's what this is...but it is a possibility. Baby oil has perfumes in it. Mineral oil is baby oil without the scent. You should use the unscented mineral oil. You may still have to help the stuck shed. Often you can just get your fingernail to sart lifting it. The skin is very stiff at the end of the tail...even with soaking it's not supple the way body shed is. You may end up getting it off in small pieces. You may need help with this. Someone to hold him firmly - and someone get this shed off. The tail does have more of a look than just stuck shed though. It has the look of dry gangrene under that shed. It's starting to shrivel and cave in on itself. This will not go away on it's own. Sometimes they drop them on their own, but often it will continue up the tail until it kills the ig. Hun...you definitely need a vet.

Now see when I asked the last owner about his tail, he said it was fine now, and when I took him to my vet the first time, I told her what the last owner said and she just said "That sounds about right, all looks fine" I have had him for 6 months and the tail has NOT gotten and WORSE, but it says there is a vet in St. Cloud MN. That is about 114 mile round trip, but I am going to call one more town and if I cant find one there (only 60 miles away) I will have to make the trip to St. Cloud. I am giving he as much water as he needs and right now a bath almost every day to clean the drainage off. I will keep you informed. Thank You.

The problem here is that you had a previous owner whop may not have ever dealt with dry gangrene before. As for the vet...this is a vet who rushed you in and out for a first time visit and sounds to me like there's not a lot of iguana knowledge there. Very few vets deal much with reptiles. This is why you need one that knows iguana care.
I've dealt with dry gangrene a total of 4 times with various igs who have come through here. I know very well what it looks like. Only a good vet can tell you for sure though.
Here's a rescue out of St. Paul. I don't know if their still in operation, but they should know of a good vet for recommendation: Animal Ark's Reptile Rescue, 809 East 7th Street St., Paul, MN 55106

By the way, I was just reading back and just wanted to conform the fact that where the cut is has ALWAYS been black. He has a black spot there and it was just coincidence that the swelling was in the black area. STILL looking for a vet, the one I was told about, the phone was disconnected. I got some of the tail shed off, and at firs it kinda had a smell to it, but now doesn't. I am HOPING it is just like when you clip your toe nails sometimes, and it kinda stinks...(tho MINE never do!!!) After a bit more comes off I will re post pictures and HOPE he will have seen a vet or something by then. Thanks.

By the way, I was just reading back and just wanted to conform the fact that where the cut is has ALWAYS been black. He has a black spot there and it was just coincidence that the swelling was in the black area. That black spot is not normal. If it's been there since you've had him...it's been an injury since the other owner(s) had him. If you look at all the many, many of pictures of iguanas and their markings you will find they are very close to being carbon copies on both sides. They have unilateral markings. You have only had him about 6 months so it's absolutely possible...and even probable...this is an old injury. I'm with the others. Have you been able to get him to the vet yet?

Hello all, I wanna thank you agan for all your help. My brother in law found a vet in the cities, so he is going to take Iggy and help the vet nurse him back to health. When I find out what they say, I will let you all know. Thanks!!!!
