well my iguana is small now and he is in a 50 gallon tank. But my house isnt that big and has no room so what do i do when he outgrows his cage? I was thinking about building one outside in my backyard but it gets really cold out there in the winter.

You will need to talk to your parents about this issue. There's no doubt that a big home will be necessary. Show your parents some pages that describe a suitable sized enclosure for an adult iguana, then let them help you decide how to proceed.

Outside in a cage is nowhere for an ig to live. Temporary outdoor cages are fine, but igs should never be left outside. To give you an idea of what size cage your ig needs full-grown: 6'T x 6'W x 3'D...minimum! Your folks will need to know this if they are going to help. What's your igs name...

Jenna,
I am in nearly the same situation as you. Next year (school year) I am moving into a 2 bedroom apartment with three others. So sharing a room again I will have to cage a freeroaming ig which I won’t do in anything less than 4' x 8' x 6' (lwh) and there is not enough room for that. My solution may sound radical to you.
I am building an ig cage in which I will spend much time also. I will put at least a chair in it but probably my desk. This would be under the “canopy” of climbing toys. Bob already climbs onto my desk a few times a week anyway.
With some thought you may be able to extend the 50 gal tank to give more height and another years use. Before you do that remember: the longer that you use a temporary solution the more permanent it becomes.

Our house is tiny too! We have an itty bitty lunchbox of one! We rent out front house out, which is bigger. This house is a 1 bedroom 1 bath house; has a living room and a small kitchen. That's it! We're hoping to get a bigger house when I end up being gravid Anyways, our 2 dragons each have their own tanks, in the living room. My big girl Vega$, who's 8 years old, 4.5' long and 8.25# or so, lives in our bedroom as a freeroamer. She's potty trained. Every morning, she's put in the shower. Part of making the bed, is laying down the tarp So, if she needs to do a second poop and the bedroom door is closed, she just uses the tarp. If the door was opened, she's just take herself to the shower. I'm not certain what your living situation is, but a little house is doable with a freeroaming iguana. I worked with Vega$ since she was a baby, and she amazes me to this day, with the behavior she exhibits. There's always something new she manages to surprise me with. Off to bed! There's an iguana waiting for me under the covers Des.

AJ looks too small to free roam for a few more years so here is an option / intermediate sized cage. The Mini Jungle Gym www.lizardcages.com/It has a foot print only a few inches larger than the typical 50 gal tank but there is ample height. It could be used until your ig is about 3 feet if you take him out for a few hours a day when getting larger. You could use this while both your ig and you become accustomed to free roaming. It is more a change for you than for a tame and trained ig as the room has to be kept very clean and nothing breakable can be left on most surfaces. I have the first Big Jungle Gym that Keith built. I feel that it is too small for a 4 foot ig so I don't leave it closed, but Bob still has his house to stay in most of the time. Mark

Is free-roaming an option? Even if it's just in your room? Our igs live outside during warmer weather, but during the cold season they live inside. Each year, they pick a different part of the house. Last year it was the tv room behind the couch, this year it was the bathroom behind the toilet.
Last week, we bought a Reptarium cage to keep them in next winter - and the rest of this "winter" as it hasn't gotten warm enough at night here to move them to their outdoor habitat yet. Depending on the size of your room, you might consider a Reptarium, too.
