Last summer, my wife and I undertook the wonderful experience of building Zilla a new home. Admittedly, the new habitat turned out beautiful and is show quality (Like Zilla cares). His house is 6 ft. long by 6 ft. high by 4 ft. deep. The inside has panelling bought at Home Depot that is decorated with trees and leaves, giving the inside a forest look. Almost like whoever made the panelling had reptile habitats in mind. We fully insulated the walls, and have 4 wire screen windows for ventilation. The top is fully screened and is customized for a variety of UV flourescents, heat bulbs, and spotlights. The inside has a variety of shelves and a large tree branch that was cured with bleach and water for debugging so he is able to get to the bottom easier. Everyone who sees this marvelous castle has been in total awe. And yes, I am patting our backs, because let me tell you, that was a nightmare straight from hell building that thing. It took us a straight week to finish it. Now, as I see my dinosaur growing, the frustration of knowing that the habitat won't contain him long is saddening. Within the next 2-3 years, he will definitly need a room all to himself. Now that will be a project I will not be looking forward to at all. But you know, since I know he's going to outgrow this habitat, I hope he gets to at least 7 feet long and 20 pounds. Oh, the joy of sharing a house with a lizard larger than a Newfoundland will be great. Now, I just need to figure how to keep him from taking over the whole house and just giving us a small room to ourselves . Hmmmmm...could be very, very interesting.
