How are you going about it putting him in the tub? Maybe try running a small amount of water in the tub at first? When you spray him, is it a gentle mist?

Some igs, like mine, keep going ballistic when they get in the tub its just their idiosyncrasy. Bob will just have nothing to do with a tub of water regardless of location. Continue with him to see if he will start to tolerate it but there does come a time where it becomes too stressful and you just give up. Don't give up with misting though as it helps shedding so much if the skin gets wet.
Bob now allows me to either spray him or pour water over him, but I do so in a manner where he just has no choice.

It isn't absolutely necessary for your iguana to bathe, however, it is SO beneficial I can't imagine NOT doing it. His skin needs to be properly hydrated to aid in shedding. (lots of igs lose their spikes due to retained shed that could have been prevented) Bathing also often stimulates them to drink, therefore aiding internal hydration which is a common/chronic problem for captive igs. and a cleaner iguana= a healthier iguana. If he wasn't able to walk around, the water was definately too deep. Try running the water just to the point where the deep end covers about 3/4 the way up his back but allows him to walk into the more shallow end. Some people bathe their igs daily.......some only do it weekly. It's up to you, but if you can get him to adjust, it is definately GOOD for him.

My ig didnt like baths at first but now he has one almost every day and I have to drag him out, he would stay in there all day if he could! I have a non-slip mat in so he feels safer and I hang a towel over the edge so he knows he can get out if he wants by himself. I think it can be scary for them as its a strange surface theyre not used to and they dont always know how to get out and panic more.

Zair would also sleep in the tub all day if I let him. He's also trained to go potty in the tub, so on the weekends I let him stay for hours reheating the tub as it cools down.
Many igs are terrified of the sound of the faucet running. If you are filling it with him in it this could be part of the proplem. And where some igs do not like baths...others love the shower coming down on top of them.
Some never do learn to like it...and as Tesa said...it is SO beneficial, but if the ig hates it...don't put it through the stress. Try these other options first for several weeks. Sometimes it just takes time, and before you know it...you may have an ig like mine that heads straight to the tub...climbs in himself...and waits for the water to cover him (he doesn't mind the sound of the water running).
As for misting...try warm water misiting. Sometimes the cold is quite shocking.
