So everyone's always yelling. Tanks! Bad Bad. Well in this image you can clearly see... This tank is huge. Eki has a hammock, his half-log, a shelf that I made myself for adding climbing. Two bowls, one on the right side too dark to see. The one on the right is his "swimming pool aka potty spot" Often switched out twice a day sometimes just once. The left bowl is for water but he normally ignores that one. We place his food on his log and he munches like there's no tomorrow. We currently have three lamps. One CHE that emites at about 70 degrees over the middle. Two 100watt basking zoo med bulbs on the left and right sides of the tank. Plus his UVB tube along the back of the tank over the shelf and basking hammock where he spends most of his time. The lid has a locking piece to prevent the lizard from escaping! He's beginning to become a bit of an explorer on the inside when we turn out two of his lights. Then we have the lovely backdrop he loves that think. Stares at it for hours =) That's Eki's home till he gets bigger. This is also proof that young iguanas DO NOT need $100 habitats till they are large enough for them. Currently we say he's about 22-24inches STL. He's growing faster with the uvb too =)

A lot of people do. It's safe and this way I don't have to worry about him trying to eat them =)

Nice setup. What size tank is that? The main reason we suggest aganst a tank is because iguanas like height. It's where they are most comfortable. Also most people go out and get a tank that is barely big enough for the lizard at the time. Within no time the ig has outgrown the tank and now they have to buy something else. Its cheaper in the long run to get something that is going to serve for a few years as opposed to being replaced every year. Baby iggys grow FAST! Eki will outgrow that tank in less than a year.

The tank was about $80. And It's great. The box said Critter Cage, Size 40. So I'm assuming 40 gallons. It's tall, wide and deep. I went to the website and found this listed as the dimensions. 36x18x16 www.all-glass.com/products/cages/index.htmlI want to add one of those shoebox clear containers with water and buld him a little ramp in and out for him to climb and swim in. Not sure yet.

This is beginning to sound like so much fun! Pls let us know if it works... with some pics, too. I put a kitty litter box in Will's enclosure, with about an inch of water in it for him to swim/poop in. He did neither . Good luck!

Beautiful set up, EC! Merlin's right about the why's of tanks...with an additional comment on 50 gal. being the suggested minimum for proper heat gradients...and how Eki will need a new one soon...less than a year at my guess, also. You feed Eki well!!
Another thing...and it really can make a difference...the type of thermometer you're using. These coil types are notorious for being up to 15 degrees off. The metal coil inside is not as accurate as Zoo Med claims. The constant fluctuations and expanding/retracting diminishes the integrity of the coil. Digital's the way to go... ;D.
I'm pretty sure I have the same background rolled up in the garage!

Oh golly...one more thing...and I won't pick again... ;D. Set the heat sources off to the farthest edge on one side or the other. Set in the middle gives very little room to leave the 75 degree cool end babies need for cooling off...can go down to 70 for juvies and older.
