My friend and I finally sat down and made our basic plans of my new ig cage 3D. It looks great. All I have for right now is a printed out version, with no scanner...so you don't get to see it yet...but I'll try to post it within a couple of days. I get paid this coming Friday, and that will be the cage-building money. I'm hoping I can get it built, and then buy some ramps and a waterfall from cagesbydesign.com for less or right around $250. If it's a little more, fine...and if it's a little less, WONDERFUL!!!! ;D Since you can't see a pic yet, I'll try to describe it the best of my ability...so bear with me...
It's basic dimensions are 7.5' High, 7' Long, and 3' Deep. It is made of wood, with all being enclosed except for the doors, which will be wood framed with mesh-middle, and the ceiling, which will be mesh for the lamps to sit on.
The outside will be painted white to match the house, while the inside will be painted green (leafy), except for the top foot or so, which will be painted blue (sky-like)...to give it that "tree-top" feel. There's about 4-5 shelves being built on it...a basking shelf, a shelf over Camille's food, water, and hide box, and then various shelves in between for climbing and temperature grandience. I'll have a waterfall from cagesbydesign in the corner for humidity, and 6" wide ramps to connect shelves, so she won't have to jump and possibly injure herself. On one side, there will be one branch reaching from the bottom of the cage to the top basking shelf.
BTW, the shelves will be covered in some kind of carpet...been wondering which kind to get, coming up with varying options, both in style and price. The carpet obviously will be for better gripping.
The bottom is the biggest debate I still have at this point...I don't know if I want the bottom to be lined with newspapers like I use now, or if I want to get some squares of linoleum (spelling?). Either have their advantages. Let me know your opinion.
And finally, the coolest part of it, in my idea, is the doors. Like said before, they are wooden framed, with 2 seperate frames. I will build one door frame, staple the mesh down, and then bolt another frame over it, so that neither I nor Camille can get cut. There will be 4 square doors. This way I can open the top half to mess with her if I want without opening the entire big rectanguler door...and if I need to clean her bottom / change her food and water, I can do so without her jumping out of the top and getting out over my back.
Doesn't it sound cool...I'm very excited. I can't wait for school to get out to start MAJOR construction. So basically I'm done bragging...let me know any concerns or comments you may have, and I'll address or consider them. Thanks for your time, and have a great day.
