I am building a cage that will be a wood frame and was going to use some kind of screen for the sides. I was wondering what size mesh should i use so that he doesnt get his toes stuck and whatnot. Or if mesh isn't good, what would be the best material to use on the sides? Since they like to taste everything is there anything we should not use? Is there some sort of primer to use on the wood that will not be harmful?

Many will tell you a fully enclosed enclosure will be best with vents in top and bottom...and if I did mine over again...I would do the same. It's so much easy keeping up the humidity and the temps don't tend to fluctuate so much. Plexiglas is a good way to go.
I used a mesh that seems to be very sturdy that is used for fisheries. It's made to weather the elements and made from an extruded material so it's all one peice with no seams for toes to get caught in. When I get home I will get the web address if you're interested. Otherwise, a good plastic-coated wire from the garden dept. will do fine.
Don't use woods with heavy oils such as cedar. These are toxic. Pine is a good wood...and the most common one used...once the wood is sealed well. Anything that is a waterbased material for painting and sealing will work.

That's exactly the one! Thanks Steph... . For a large ig I used the 3/4" mesh diamond pattern. Use a smaller mesh for smaller igs. A two year old can get it's head stuck in the 3/4". Ig-sperience here... . They do offer free sample packets for you to see first-hand what they have to offer. Very nice people, too.

thanks you guys. That site i think will be really helpful because it also answers my question with what kind of mesh to used to withstand heat from lamps. The only thing left is figuring out what size to use. Thanks for all your help
