Well, today for the first time Kyo wore his rear leash. I was just going to put it on and let him roam around our bedroom for a while, but he handled it really well, so we went outside. He did a great job. No death rolls, but that grass was a little weird. We went back onto the deck, and it seemed he liked that better. Then we went for a walk around the block (I carried him) and he met all of the neighborhood kids. I am sooo proud of him Cyndi

That's great Cyndi! It's so much fun to take the beasties outside! If he does well on a leash you have so many more opportunities to interact with him. (Poor Thrasher can't go out until after her post op check up in 4 more weeks!) It's fun to meet neighborhood folks too! (Remember to always give them a good talk on hand washing or carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer with ya)

Poor Thrasher. Wouldn't the real sun help tho? Or are they worried about stitches? We went out again today! He is such a good boy! We went to the park (they don't spray for weeds or insects). He found a nice sunny spot and stayed there for about an hour. On the way home, we found out that he can climb brick buildings very well (thank goodness for the lead!) Now he doesn't want to come in!

Oh my goodness what FUN! Will would love it. I'll have to look into this. What is your leash like? Kyo can't slip out? I'm a worry wart about things like that.

Get Kyo used to it, makes life so much easier. I have not had to clean out Bob's cage yet this summer because he eats and messes outside. Nor do I depend on a reptisun bulb because of my real sun access.
I think that Bob also prefers things to lay on other than the grass.

Yes, it's because of the stitches. I'm suposed to limit physical activity.......and that's impossible if I take her outside. Even if I'm holding her instead of putting on her leash she would be a squirmy butt and I don't want to take any chance of popping the sutures.

Oh, it is great fun!
I made my lead out of 5-6 ft of lighter weight nylon rope/cord, whatever you call it. Thin enough to fit between spikes, but strong enough to withstand any croc rolls or sudden attemps at freedom ;D Took a barrel clasp off of my daughter's old winter coat.
Tie a knot at one end (I actually melted the rope at the ends so that it wouldn't fray). The knot should be big enough to not pull thru the clasp. Make a small loop at the knotted end and push loop thru the barrel clasp. There, you have the iguana end of the lead! Just push clasp and pull loop until big enough to slide over iggy. Tighten loop snugly infront of hind legs (tight enough so that iggy can't slip thru, but not too tight).
Voila! Slip knot at human end makes a great snug wrist handle that can be easily made smaller for kids arms when they just HAVE to walk the iguana! I padded my end with some cut up old towels that I sewed into a tube, and ran the rope thru it.
It is so fun to watch them react to new things. (Oh my GOSH, there is a sky!)

Walking an iguana, what a silly idea. It is either carrying or following your iguana. I try to coax Bob in to going where I want sometimes but he will just look back at me like 'You go that way but I am still going to go this way, stupid human.'

You're right Mark. We are in the "wherever Kyo goes, we will follow" mode. But the look on people's faces is well worth it!

Every once in a while I can convince Gil that it's more fun to go where Mommy's going... but not often enough!
He loves our new neighborhood... we've been walking around the block and seeing all the "worker-men."

Since we are being honest here it really is the iguana taking US for a walk!

The last time Thrasher was out for a walk was right before the whole egging/surgery thing. She walked me nearly 2 blocks!! I swear she was headed for the creek that's at the dead end of our street!
