What would be a good one ot get.....warm steam or cold mist?
I also gotta take mold into consideration...
spray bottles work, but only so well

Really it all depends on what you need to do to make a warm air one safe. The steam coming out is enough to cook Raz. When I use one it goes into a small animal cage where the top wire keeps him out of burning range. A cold air is cheaper to run and still adds humidity...just not as effectively. You don't have to worry about mold as long a you allow a complete drying out period between periods of the vaporizer running. You could run it for a couple of hours...then allow it to be off for drying...then on again...etc. Timers are a must for this!

I use an ultra sonic humidifier, It puts out a cool mist but I think better than the standard cool mist. The cool mist will use heat from the cage though so might not be a good idea if you have problems maintaining temps. Ive have never used a warm mist for fears of burns but Prisms setup should protect and also gives a good humidity basking spot if that makes sense. Ive seen pics of hers on here somewhere but not sure where.
I have actually been working on mine today, I moved it so it blows the mist just bellow one of the vents where the heated air blows in. Maybe it will work a little better that way??? Im waiting now for it to stop climbing so I will know.

Sounds like a good theory maccha. Maybe it will boost the humidity even higher. Here's one of the pics maccha was talking about. The vicks humidifier is encased in the "guinea pig" cage. There are also people who have a dryer vent hose attached to the misting vent (whether it's cold or warm) and aim it through a hole on the cage at the basking area for short periods of time. I would love to try this method. I think it would be the best option myself.

Well, Im up to 49% on the Digital now with no plants and bare clean floors. Ive never gotten above 50% without the plants and grass

The pipes wrapped in rope i use are also for used as ducts. I have though about having It inject into one of them. If I would have planned better I would have done this after the heating element before its spits to different pipes and vents, would have distributed well all over the cage. Someday I will. I am going to add a new homemade one pretty soon that will do that anyway.
Well, 51%

Well, Im up to 49% on the Digital now with no plants and bare clean floors. Ive never gotten above 50% without the plants and grass I've gotten to 75% with the above warm air vaporizer...but those are days where it's also been humid outside. Tennessee tends to get like that from about spring through early fall. Right now I'm hitting 59% in the herp room with no vaporizer...but this is kind of an exception...not a rule. In the winter it hangs around 35%-45%. Those are heavy misting days.

Do you open the window? This helps immensely. The rain doesn't come in on that side of the house much so I can keep it opened about 4" safely.

Actually, I converted the garage into a rec room, Still have the garage door though and it was open when I had 20%. LOL this would be a good day.
Well, it looks like the best im going to get is 51%. I do think its better though, In the old location the sensor was 4 ft above the humidifier, The main basking site. Now its 4 ft below, and 5 ft away diagonally.

Opps, the humidifier is still 4 ft below but 5 ft away diagonally.

well I have one of tyhe older barometric ones, and the lowest it has ever gotten to is 40 % without anything......usualy around 50%....if I use the spreay bottle it seemes ot read up ot 75% or more...depending on how much I use.

Also, ultrasonic misters using just hte mister alone would be very dangerous, the ultrasonic waves comming from that thing can cause injury, as the water would allow transfer of it, only the enclosed and complete humidifiers are safe enough.......unless you build it right........ I have one of the fountain sonic misters.....but I would ned to do some modding to make it safe.

yep, you dont want to touch anything close to the disc. Picked one up by the gaurd once and felt almost like getting shocked. not a problem with the store bought humidifiers though. They also generate allot of heat in the water, could get hot enough to burn if not enough water.
The one I am working on now is 6" pvc will be around 6' long. Will fill with about 3" water and have a series of holes drilled above the water line. It will have a tee at the end with the mister(the mister will be about 6" down the pipe but before the holes start) there will be a fan on top covered with brass screen and a drain on the bottom. This will run along the top of the cage so will hopefully work pretty well.
