Thanks, Dom. I do realize how important keeping his humidifier is. The warm mist humidifiers don't have filters as the cool mist does, but still I know I have to be VERY careful. I take it apart and wipe and rinse it out every other night. i don't think that's enough though. I'm going to read up on the disinfection of the innards of this gadget.
What is AIML?
What do you use for humidity? Such a fine balance beween proper heat and proper humidity.

Hi Nance-
Both my Igs are free-roamers, so humidity is a constant issue. They survive on much less than it should be. We compensate with very frequent mistings, very "wet" greens and routine bathing/soakings.
AIML (Advanced Iguana Mailing List) is a Yahoo! group of "Igsperts". They are the Ig-scientists of the world and constantly debating proper care and husbandry issues. There is also the original group called IML (Iguana Mailing List). The AIML branched off of the IML to discuss high-level care issues.
One of the issues the AIML is currently debating is the Humidity vs. Hydration issue. The debate lies in the fact that proper humidity may have little to do with internal hydration. Make no mistake, humidity is essential to a healthy Iguana. But for years folks believed that a lack of humidity could dehyrate your Iguana. It would seem that now that view may be changing. Humidity helps to acheive proper hydration, but may not be critical to it. More critical to hydration is moisture intake. This is acheived through misting, "moist" (ie. sprayed) food and bathing and soaking.
Glad to hear you are on top of the humidifier issue. Good luck with the new enclosure.
Regards, Dominick

Thanks... your post is rich with excellent info. About AIML..I would like to lurk on that list for awhile. Will sign up on IML this morning. I'm going to copy and paste the portion of this post re: humidity over to 'housing'. I think it is very important.

It s really beautiful.I like inside decoration very much. I plan to have something like that for my spyro in the future.I cant imagine how to provide right temperature and humiditi in such a big enclosure.I have problems with that in much smaller tank.
