Beware of carpet, and pay attention to your igs nails when using carpet...I have heard the fibers from carpeting can wrap itself around toes and cause them to die and fall off....just a thought....lyn

Well the carpet I'm using is outdoor carpet, it's made of plastic so it isn't as bad as thread carpet for cleaning. Also no chance of geting a nail caught. Orko only goes to the bathroom when I put him in the tub so the only mess I have ti clean up are pieces of shedding. Probably different with each ig.

Getting nails caught is mainly a problem with steel screens and woven steel mesh (true chicken wire). Many years ago Bob lost a toenail to a steel window screen.
With the freak exception of a fiber tightening around a toe I don't think these fibers are much danger to feet and tails. With a healthy larger ig the fibers will break before anything else. The danger I see would be in stray fibers being tasted then sticking to the tounge.
I find the best way to clean most of the cage is move the ig outside and vacume it out. Dried leaves, veggies, scales, dust, etc. easily get sucked up. It works so much better than trying to brush everything off.

You do have to be careful with the plastic carpet because as it ages, pieces will start to break off, and can cause an impaction problem. Regular vacuuming should help keep all the small pieces cleaned up, but when you notice this happening to the carpet, it's time to replace it.

The palces to keep a close watch on are those under the UV bulb and any that get direct light through a window. UV and sunlight are things that kill funriture very quickly. This goes for any synthetic product in/on the cage (remember those zip ties).

So is he eating the veggies and fruit while leaving the greens? If so, from my reading, he is not getting enough Ca as there is little Ca in veggies and next to no Ca in fruit. If he is only eating the greens look up some of the diets that only use greens -- MK mentions Jennifer Swofford's diet on www.anapsid.org/iguana/nowar.html. I grate my veggies, slice the greens about 3/8" thick then mix then in a collender while washing them just before I give them to him. This way there is no way that it can be picked through. Not that Bob is pickey -- usually he is too impatient for his food that he bites the rim of the food dish, regardless of how many plates he ate that day. Mark

I gotta agree with Mark. If the little buggar isn't gonna eat his greens, I would take away the fruit. Maybe just let him have it once or twice a week in the afternoon when he has already eaten his greens and veggoes. They can be worse than kids! (Alright you green brat....you are grounded !!) ;D

Haha! He's checking it out good huh? prolly thinkin "what the heck? Mom went and put all this girly stuff in here!" lol
I'm a bit concerned about the excessive drinking because it can signal kidney problems. Did you put a smaller water dish in there for him? He still needs access to water.
